Hi all.
This post is concerning a 9 month old red sex link hen. She is eating, running and laying, and doing all normal things.
A few days ago, she seemed to be limping slightly and occasionally picking at the underside of her foot. I looked under both feet and on both feet, there is a black callused pad same size. The other chickens do not have it. I was wondering if this is something to be concerned about?
I have a few inches of bedding in the coop and in the run. the bedding consists of old hay, dried leaf litter and dry grass, with some landscape gravel mixed in, plus the usual veggie matter. It's been 80-90 degrees outside as I am in Phoenix, AZ, but they are under two shade trees so I do not think their feet can get burned. Anyone come across this?
Thank you.
