Can someone please tell me an antibotic that will help with scaly leg mites? I've tried putting vaseline, utter butter, on their feet to smother them out but it doesn't seem to work. I've been using DE on roost and on the floor. I have all hens some 4 year olds and 1 year old and 6 months old. It seems only the older girls have them. They are very swollen and the scales are really sore. Need something that will work fast, I lost one hen to this she got very ill and wouldn't walk, I'm almost sure that is what made her so sick and we had to put her down. Sure don't want to go through that again. Any help is much appreciated.

You are going to have to spend some money on a good antiparasitic. I recommend Eprinex pour on, it rids the animal of internal and extermal parasites and should take care of those leg mites if natural methods arent working. Sorry for your trouble!

I appreciate your help, will order some for external leg mites on their legs.

Thanks again,

You would do better to use a liquid oil like vegetable oil as it has to smother the mites. The liquid oils get into the scales better...and yes using the eprinex pour on will help as well. Even after you kill the mites though the scales still look raised and they will until the chicken sheds them and regrows new ones.

I use vegetable oil and detol (the antiseptic stuff you use on cuts to clean them) mix together and paint on with a brush, I use it for all my birds and just treated a few budgies with it too.
