Sweet Home Alabama!!
A week or so ago I posted about our silkie chick being scalped by our insane quail.
She is looking much better, has some new growth but still most of the skull bone exposed. We are keeping it covered in triple antibiotic.

Heres a pic of her slow recovering wound.

when she goes outside might have to put some sunscreen on that bald spot.

if the feathers dont grow back. Hopefully they do

Oh man! Wow...that looks painful!

I had the same thing happen to a chick that my stupid brother stuck in the pen with the grown chickens. It was his chick, and I guess he didn't want to care for it, so he just stuck it in my chicken pen.

I didn't even know he did it. I happened to find it one night while going out to candle eggs. It was hiding in the nest box. It surprised me so bad.

It looked just like that...skull exposed. I was FURIOUS.

I really didn't expect it to live, but I took it out and put it in a cage all alone. It's doing well, only it's a little crazy. It's terrified of anything that moves and slams it's self into the cage trying to flee. I can't say I blame it though.

I'm really glad to hear yours is making a recovery.

Had an Ameraucana pullet slice the back of her head open between the wall and the fencing trying to get away from the rest of the flock when she was introduced(they weren't even paying attn to her, she was just frightened). Looked just like that one. Had to pull it together and put in a couple stitches to hold it together, kept it clean till it hardened, healed up good other than a small rise in the feathers where the scar was.

Update on Olivia the Scalped chick!

I would have NEVER thought a.) she would have lived through a complete scalping. and b.) That the skin would have EVER covered the entire skull in such a short period of time!
AMAZING!
I post so anyone with a similar situation will have hope that their chick will survive such a massive and horrible accident.

She looks a bit strange and may never get a full silkie hairdo but she made it and is still a house bird and will be for a long while.
