Hey y’all!

I need some help. I have a hen that was completely scalped by my male. This happened close to a week ago and she’s been in the house ever since. I put blukote on the wound and have been treating her eye with an eye wash and terramycin. Hey eye wasn’t actually damaged but the skin around it was and the day after she was attacked it swelled shut. The swelling in her eye has gone down but she has what looks like infection covering the eye now. She does this thing where she opens her mouth and kind of shakes her head. I have looked in her mouth and can’t find anything wrong. Also she’s not eating. She is drinking but nothing I have tried to entice her with is working. I am giving her baytril trying to fight any infection. What else can I do? I let her roam around in the house and after walking around for a little bit she gets tired and lays down. I should add that she only has one good leg. Her other leg was injured as a chick and she’s never had use of it other than using it to help stabilize her. I’m worried about her. She’s my girl and I’m extremely attached to her but at this point I’m not sure what else to do.

Thanks for any suggestions!

How do I tube feed? I will start putting it in her feed like you said. I’ve only given it to her for 3 days so I’ll only give it to her two more days. Should I give her probiotics afterward? Is baytril a good choice of antibiotic? What are the chances she will recover from this? I’m so worried about her! Sorry about all the questions but thanks so much for your help!

In the end she will be fine. I have had them scalped so bad I had to sew the cap back up the neck to the forehead. She will scab and grow new skin and feathers and likely be hard to even notice that it happened.
That’s so good to hear! Not that your peafowl got hurt but that they came out of it ok! Do you know what might be causing the head shaking? She was scalped so bad you could see two things on either side of her neck that would move. I don’t know what those were but you can’t see them anymore and there is obvious new skin growing, I guess I’m more worried about her eye and the fact that she’s not eating. Thanks again for all your help I appreciate it!!
