Scalping

one more thing , i raised them in cages and on ground and found they do much better on ground covered with wood shavings , in cages easier to collect eggs but more work cleaning and more mortality percentage , on ground they will be much happier but careful not step on eggs

What do you mean "in cages more mortality percentage"?
i usually raise quails in numbers between 100 and 200, when i raise on ground maybe one to five dies , but in cages maybe around 10 or more , some people say it's because quails get scared so they try to fly suddenly so they hit their heads with the cage roof , what i saw is that with some males together you get some dominant males and other weaker males, in cages there is no place to hide when they fight , and not just males , i had once a male slaughtered 6 females in one night, but on ground there is space to run and places to hide .
