Meet Mr. Matthew. He's two and a half years old and has been head of the flock since his dad Jack died in February. That is, until last week. See, Matthew has had some white crusties on his face for a while. I've treated it off and on with coconut oil, but never thought of it as an issue as he was still going about his roosterly duties and kicking the other rooster's tail when necessary. I came out yesterday to find Elrond (the other rooster) chasing Matthew around the yard. Since then, he's only stayed in the coop and acted lethargic. His face is super swollen. I don't know what it is, but none of the others are affected.
Can anyone please help me? I really don't want to lose him.

Seriously, please help. I'll summon people if I have to!
He's not sneezing, but he is yawning a lot. There's no smell and there's not a canker in his mouth or throat.

I'm wondering if it's favus, or a fungal infection going on there.

Here's a good article on treating it: https://poultrydvm.com/condition/ringworm

The good news is, most of the treatments are over-the-counter and I don't think it would hurt to use them if it weren't a fungal infection. If it is, it will probably take some time to treat, though.

If more knowledgeable people don't stop by soon (BYC Educators) I will help tag some of them.

Thank you so much! I do think it's favus. I've never heard of it before, but I'll do the research I'm able. I'll keep you guys updated. Thank you again!

Thank you for your patience.

Look him over really well for lice and mites.

It may be mites, infection from picking, I see some scabs or fungal infection. You've been putting coconut oil and treating for a while, switch to an anti-fungal cream and see if that helps.

On the contrary, thank you for your patience with me; I don't usually freak out, but Matthew is very special to me.
Do you reccomend a specific antifungal cream? I looked into a few, but there are very many out there. For now, I'm treating him with two drops of tea tree oil in two tablespoons of coconut oil, but it doesn't seem to be effective.

Thank you!

You can use Miconazole or Clotrimazole.

Coconut oil can actually be fairly drying and cause the tissue to peel on chickens, or that's my experience when applying it to combs/wattles. It's not something I would use again.

Well, Matthew is definitely feeling better! His face is less white, and just looks like pale skin; he's been coming out of the coop in the evenings, but Elrond is still chasing him around. How long do I need to continue treating with the Miconazole? I've been doing it twice a day since Friday evening.
