Hi peeps, so I rescued some White Stars today from an elderly couple, problem is they have scaly mite.
I have 9 other hens so have them quarantined until I have the problem under control.
I have began a treatment of, clean with old toothbrush and surgical spirit before applying Vaseline.
I have read of people using gasoline but surely this can't be good?
I have also seen some articles warning against using D.E.
Anyways I'm basically just after some insight from experienced keepers on how best to solve this mite problem.
Thanks in advance

Stay away from DE..it's worthless.
I would never use gas either.

Vaseline will work but
So will a spray can of cooking oil..
canola oil/Pam.

@Wickedchicken6 Do you think the spray coconut oil would work too?
I think any oily based type product should work. It's an oil base, right? I've never dealt with coconut oil spray but I'd assume it should as long as it oily. Here anything coconut is prohibitively more expensive...which is why I use canola oil. It's only $2 and some change.:)

I'm a fan of coconut oil for my hair and skin.
I buy it in big jars, but yesterday I saw this can, so I picked one up just to have around the house.
I sprayed it on my legs and it felt pretty much the same as the "regular" stuff I buy.
I was just wondering if it would work for the chicken legs too?
LOL
