Hello,
I am treating scaly leg mite on my three gals, two of which have feathered feet. I've just been slathering on Vaseline underneath the feathers as much as possible, but am thinking of dunking their legs into some olive oil as well, after a little foot soak. Do I just go ahead with this and ignore the feathers? Should I trim the feathers or anything like that? I'm a newbie to the chicken-life.
Thanks :)

I found Nu-Stock Ointment to work far better than Vaseline for treating scaly leg mites. Two treatments eliminated scaly leg mites on my turkey hen while repeated Vaseline treatments just slowed the problem down.

You can dip their feet and legs in rubbing alcohol. Probably better than oil for chickens with feathered legs. You will need to do it twice, the second time 10 days after the first.
Their legs need to be submerged in the alcohol for 30 seconds or so.

Thanks! I've seen this product mentioned. Unfortunately it apparently isn't sold in Canada any longer. Maybe I'll try the online shipping route and have some success...

Welcome to BYC! When I treat scaly leg mites I use ivermectin, which one of the treatments that this website suggests:

I've heard good things about Nu-Stock Ointment, but I prefer ivermectin.
Thanks! I've asked my vet if she'll prescribe me the Ivermectin drops... we shall see! I don't think it's available over the counter here in Canada - at least not according to my local feed store... Maybe the online shipping route will work here too...
