Just smear petroleum jelly well on to your chickens' feet. It is best to treat all birds. You can carry a jar around with you or keep it in a convenient place and treat your birds when ever you handle them. Anyway, how many chickens do you have?

I agree ^^ This^^Scaly leg mites defecate under the scales of your chickens' feet, this is what causes the scales to rise up. The dark lines can definitely be scaly leg mite poo beginning to ooze out. Don't take a chance, treat with petroleum jelly.
