Scaly leg mites?

Hi everyone! My dark brahma pullet has funny looking scales on her legs. Is this scaly leg mites? We don't have rodents in the house, other than a hamster that they have never met, and they haven't been in contact with other birds at all. They're still in the brooder. Thanks!

Doesn't look like it. Scaly leg mites make the scales raise up on one end. IF you are sure that's what it is, put petroleum jelly or Vaseline over her shanks and that will suffocate the mites.

Thank you so much! I'm going to do a deep cleaning of the brooder with olive oil and garlic spray on Sunday just to be sure. I've read that lice spray can get rid of them quickly. Is this safe? Since you can spray it on kids.

I don't recommend any petroleum product on chickens because they preen and ingest it and it is poisonous. Use coconut oil instead. Perfectly safe and does the trick brilliantly.

BTW that leg looks normal, not mitey at all. Maybe you've got a cockerel because one of those bumps will turn into a spur!
Thanks for the reply! She's a Brahma hen (I think, since she likes being held and is displaying no cockerel behavior), would that be the beginnings of more feathers waiting to sprout? Only my dark Brahmas have the dark scales, my buff brahmas don't.

my feathered leg breeds have bumpy legs too. Like perhaps they are hair follicles or something under the scales. Nothing to worry about. Yours look perfectly normal to me.

I've had a mite problem recently so I will try and post some pics for you. They look scabby because it takes a few months for the raised scales to drop off and regrow once you treat them.
