Hi everyone,
I have spent the last few hours looking on the net trying to find out if my girls have a "condition"...I have come up with them possibly having scaly mites...pictures are few and far between, but there are varying opinions on what makes them go away...any suggestions??? Seems there are medications, drops, sprays, powders, and some say just drown them??? I want to do what evers best so I'm counting on my byc buds to steer me in the right direction...also, if meds are the way to go, will it affect the eggs??Looking for help, and I know I'm looking in the right place.
Thanks in advance,
Mirmle

Wd-40 works as quick and is as effective as anything, But you will need to treat your coops and runs as well with an approved insectiside, I personally use ravap mixed with vegetable oil. for a longer lasting residue

a couple of my bantys have these things on their legs too. I have heard of Tea Tree Oil/Mineral Oil rub but what does one use for the coop? I ordered some Di Earth (DE) for lice because I've seen them on my reds, will that do the trick on the mites too? Or should I have any added stuff?

Tea Tree oil ointment or the oil mixed in with some vegy oil to make a 10% solution works.

They only part of the coop I have ever treated is the perchs, and you just need to oil them as well.

Body mites are more persistant and usually require that you spray the coop with an insecticide and replace the bedding. That will not work of course if you don't solve the source, which is usually wild birds or their poop coming in contact with your birds. If you let them range and can't prevent contact cedar shavings up to about 10% of the bedding works well to keep control naturally as does DE.

Yep, the key here is to smother the culprit on the legs. Some things work better than others. 50% raw linseed oil and 50% kerosene placed in a empty coffee can, dipping the legs in and repeating in 10days works also.
