Hi everyone,

I was hoping I could get some real like experiences to help calm my anxiety.

I have a lovely bantam rooster with extreme feathers on his feet. I noticed recently a lot of standing on one leg, tremors in his legs leading to a slight tremor in his tail. I looked at his feet and noticed some lifted scales so I immediately started treating for scaly mites. I did the soaks, oil and Vaseline for about three days and I couldn’t stand knowing he might be in discomfort so I took him to the vet.

Vet said he’s healthy and she isn’t concerned about the tremors as it might be from the long feathers and just working those muscles a lot as he’s still maturing. She said he does have scaly mites but extremely early on.

He’s on avimec once a week for three weeks and then she suggested both my chickens take it every 3 months. Anyway I’m still applying Vaseline for him cause he seems uncomfortable I can tell it’s making him itchy and it’s quite warm to touch and a bit red atm probably cause he keeps getting annoyed by it.

I was wondering has anyone experienced this with early on set of scaly mites? Is the tremor possibly from him just being annoyed by the itchiness and trying to relieve pain by standing on alternating legs? He’s been preening and itching his face but she checked for mites and lice and there was no sign of them. He’s been doing that thing where they open their mouth to process their crop more than usual but I think that’s because of all the preening.

Some background if relevant:
He’s one year old, has a healthy comb, bum, feathers. No feather loss, good poops, eating normal, drinking normal. Free range as often as possible, I’ve put some vitamin supplements in their water to help for a few days, he eats mainly layer feed with some wheat (I am currently in the market for an all flock feed for him but it’s hard to get where I am) so he gets meal worms and cooked meat whenever possible. They get veggies, fruit etc but only occasionally never ever mouldy and usually not scraps but things that are kinda squishy in the fridge haha. Sex life is pretty good my hen was broody recently so she’s been MIA and now isn’t in the mood but plus he doesn’t seem to try too much cause I can tell his feet are bothering him.

Thanks so much in advance
