Hi

We have eight chicks, four RIR or NHR and three California whites and one buff Orpington. It seems to me that they are very afraid of us at first but will co e over after you just sit there for a few minutes. Also, picking them up or moving them causes them to screech and whine like you're hurting them when you are barely even holding the chicks. This seems to be the case for everyone but the one buff Orpington.

Now my question is, how do we get the, to be less scared of us and to get the, used to being held?

you can give them mealworms out of your hand or regular worms and just let them get use to you that what i had to do

You just have to handle them alot! ALOT. That's the answer. One thing I've found is that, I make a little noise as I'm entering the room that the brooder is in. I talk to them, or whistle as I'm coming in. That way, they don't feel like I've snuck up on them suddenly.....you know, they hear me coming, so they're not as startled.

Sit in the room with them and watch them, put some food in your hand and be very still, and hand feed them. Talk to them alot. Soon they'll become accustomed to you and your voice.

They always come over for some food if I hold my hand out with food In it, but are still rather sacred if I even move my hand slightly
