your head.... ~(*.*)~
My Australorp cross and my 2 golden commits have been hand raised since they were 1-3 days old they are now at lay point and my Australorp cross (Ninjago) has recently been broody. Before the broody stage she trusted me A LOT We were very close and so were the other two but ninjago and I just got on very well. Then she went broody. I didn't change how I treated her or anything but now she has stopped laying and she is terrified of me. I just don't know what is going on??!!

What is happening? and how can I get her to love and trust me again?! I kiss the old Ninja. And how can I get her to lay again?? Its been weeks with out her laying. (af fare as I know) (Her comb and wattles are not fire red as they used to be and she has seemed to loose lots of weight but she is still eating.) PLEASE HELP!!!

It's all hormonal. The increased vigilance is all part of her preparing to protect her chicks. Be patient, she will get back to normal. Just continue to treat her as you always have.

When birds go broody, their hormones are raging. They get very shy, timid, stressed and can be scared of everything. Nervous. Part of the brooding process of raising chicks would be to be on high alert for her chicks to any danger that might harm them. So don't take it personally. This is how they can get. As Sourland has suggested, just treat her as you normally do and when the broody stage has passed she will return to her old self.

Good luck with your flock and welcome to BYC!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X3, they can unpredictable when they are broody. Have you tried breaking her of being broody if you are not going to let her hatch eggs? She may stay broody for months, and if she is dropping weight etc you may be better off to make her stop. You are sure she is broody, and that there is not something else going on?
