Hi, recently one of my muscovy ducks passed away because of boutilism, and it seems like it was something in their new coop that was built for them that caused the illness. There is a party in my house, and the duk was taken inside. I took him out however, worried that whatever caused illness in the other duck was still there. Now, hes just sitting under a pine tree, away from the party. Is this because he is scared? He was in the coop for around 90 minutes. I never saw him like this, I guess he is scared.

Why would a duck want to go to a party any way? Maybe he is lonely sounds like he’s an only duck they don’t do well being one they thrive with more.
We recently got him a little female duckling as the new companion, however, she is still very young and we are taking it slowly. Maybe showing her to him will help him? Im just very paranoid evr since we lost his previous companion.

Tell us what you think caused the death of your female? Something in the coop she ate or breathed? I would def go slow introducinga tiny duckling to an adult drake but letting him see her with supervision would be okay as long as it isn’t freezing cold outside for a tiny duckling not feathered in yet.

Well, the aera were their coop was quickly ran out of grass, as they ate it all, and we live pretty far away from the place qere they sell duck food, (now we know they sell them around the corner, but we just found out). We live in Bolivia, and there are no certified sellers. They sell duck food in markets, mostly. Anayway, there was no food for some days, so we gave them cut grass, and the area was often wet because we would accidentally wet the place with the hose, making it muddy. I think it was either this swampy environment, or the cut grass. Also, they were both males, and they often fought though were mostly united.

Not having proper nourishment could have caused it your drake to get sick . Especially if they go without it for awhile just make sure you have feed now for them and plenty of fresh water too. My ducks are in the mud here a lot we've had so much rain it can be worrisome but they seem to do okay. Maybe if you can move their pen and house to another location where it’s not muddy and there is grass .
