Scared of the dog but not the cat?

I was just out there and the dog followed me around and they took one look at him and started distressed clucking and high-tailed it back too the coop,and they were still locked up in their run!
But the other day I was holding one of them and my cat came right up to its face and sniffed it and it didn't do anything, it just sat there!
The dog hasn't done anything to them,all he does is run past their coop and the **** themselves -_-
I don't understand!!

Size does matter.

Cats in general don't pose to much a threat to a full grown chicken, of which they probably already had interactions with and showed the cat it's place.

Dogs on the other hand are very large and even if friendly, their size could hurt them (if you have a large dog). But it sounds like to me they had some interactions with a dog and it wasn't a good one. Might have a neighborhood dog harassing them or did.

I've had them since chicks and my dog is a minature foxie cross foxie so the cat is actually bigger than him
all he's done is bark at them once and he hasn't done it again,he just runs by the coop or they get one look at him and freak out, I dunno, maybe they're just being chicken
