Scared to leave eggs outside alone, hen hasn’t started sitting yet

i tend to go off topic im sorry, i don’t know what she is :/

She is very beautiful 😍😍
If she has started puffing up and clucking
I think she will go broody soon
My hens take roughly a week to go complete broody after this
Good luck !!

I’m not sure what you mean when you say she’s “puffy”. Unless she’s sitting on that nest night and day, she’s not broody. Laying eggs does not mean she will want to hatch them. Most chickens lay eggs for years and never sit on them to hatch them. Leaving eggs out will not entice her to sit. A broody hen will sit on eggs, rocks, golf balls, even an empty nest.

The only way to get chicks on your schedule is to incubate them yourself.

should i just incubate the eggs she has left or let her have them? she has 4 eggs that i haven’t incubated, she laid one today, she’s been under the shed for hours and hasn’t come back yet. if she started sitting i was thinking of sneaking them under her.

I guess I dont really understand broodiness then, though this explains how my birds can amass 30 eggs in one spot and THEN decide to sit on them.

If you are attached to these particular eggs hatching, I would incubate them - though I'm not sure how long she is making fertile eggs past the roosters demise.

Otherwise I personally would wait for her sit them and then carefully move her and the nest somewhere safe, away from predators and other chickens that might bug her.
