I have read in the forum (and I am very new to chickens with 4-1/2 week chicks that are being moved out of house to coop) that deep litter (will be using pine shavings) is good. How much should I use for my little chicks? Someone also mentioned "DE" and I do not know what that is. I need help please. Thanks so much.

DE stands for diatomaceous earth. There are several uses for it with regards to chickens. There are a bunch of threads about it here on BYC... here's one: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=83002 You can also try a search if you don't find what you need there.

I keep adding the pine shavings with some FOOD GRADE DE sprinkled in until I have 4/6 inches.
