School fundraisers are evil....

i found out last night that my girls school was adopted by a "company" of solders,,,,,,,,i dont mind helping them out AT ALL,, or sending the care packages to them,,,,,, but,,,, isnt the people that are doing the handing out,, pose to do the "adopting"?,, shouldnt the kids adopt a group of service personnel and send them stuff,,, instead of the "personnel" adopting a class.,, i guess im back-muleward ,,, wait till you see who imma gonna adopt, and then tell them what they need to give me.

I have to agree that school fundrasiers totally suck, they should just ask us to donate money instead, this years candles that they wanted the girls to sell were 16.00 to 20.00 for a 3 oz candle, sorry I can get a huge 3 pound candle for 4.50 at wal-mart and they smell better too. So I sent a note back with the catalog telling them that noone we knew could afford to buy fundrasing stuff at this time due to the economy, besides they were still trying to rasie money for new playground equipment, that they have been rasing money for, for the past 4 years, and I know for a fact that playground equipment don't cost 52,000.oo as I helped raise money for to build a community park and was the one who purchased the equipment. So I have totally stopped with the school fundrasiers but I do support the class fundrasiers and library, and fall carnivals. So ya'll arn't floating on that boat alone.

Million kids.......million fundraisers.....

This year though so far the best has been an ebay fundraiser. They asked each family to donate lightly used items to be sold. The school got 75% of the sale money. And it cleaned out a closet or two at our house

The Fundraiser I pay ... TAXES!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!

Seriously what ever happened to car washes, bake sales, and activities like penny socials, ice cream socials, etc. I absolutely hate that these companies are getting rich because they are selling kids on selling their stuff to get a "prize" that you could find in the dollar store. I'd rather just give them a donation than buy something from one of those cataloges...

Although...where the heck is my girl scout???

DD cannot be sent off to wander the neighborhood, so I used to write a check to her school. Cuz there is no way on Earth I will go peddle fundraising junk to my friends & business associates. As for the *incentives* - I am the evil parent that explained to my kids that they were being manipulated into doing many hours work for a $3 piece of crap.
GIRLSCOUT COOKIES DON'T COUNT - they sell themselves!

I refuse to participate in any way in selling or buying overpriced stuff I don't need, for school fundraisers. I just throw the things away when they send them home. My daughter used to get upset that she couldn't win any prizes for selling stuff, but she doesn't any more. We do buy books at the book fair twice a year. Those are normally priced and are things we can use. We participate in school carnivals and link our grocery card to the school, but I will not buy, or ask others to buy, ridiculously expensive candy or wrapping paper.

I always use the wrapping service at the mall, and it is never being done by kids(or their parents)
It's nearly always a breast cancer awareness group or senior citizens group.
I also think that Ebay is a good way to raise money, although I wont sell there anymore since they changed the format etc. Too much a hassle. Bad enough part of my new job is doing bulk upload listings:rolleyes:

There is a Pizzeria Uno night coming up here as well. Depending on what night and time they do this. Imay or miay not be able to do this as well. Stinks when ones dh gets home after 8

On my Etsy sites I am donating 10% of all sales to my favorite "charity" CanterUSA.org Where I got my "son" from:D

All the years my children were in school I thought I was the meanest mom (and dad too) around, we were not apparently. Sure schools need extra money, but the taxes in my township are the highest around because of the school! They seem to have all the lastest computers, gadgets and sports equipment. If they need more money do what we do-do without something else. I had pretty well got off of everyones list but recently one of my bosses daughters called me at home to buy cookie dough. I was caught off guard and spent $16 for one tub of dough. Never again! I am prepared for the next time. I told my daughter I will buy for my grandchildren, but fundraisers come and go and she never tells me because she knows how I feel. I guess I wonder why if so many of us feel this way we have not "overcome" this situation by now?

I have a particular aversion to these kinds of overpriced fundraisers. I don't have children, so I'm sort of out of the loop, but I do have one friend whose son is asked to sell wrapping paper, etc. I just don't need anymore wrapping paper. They're not pushy about it at all, though.

When I worked in an office with several other women, it was much worse. I just won't pay megabucks for a few cups of cookie dough. I have less of a problem if it's from a private school. I figure I pay enough taxes for public schools.
