Hello all- I have a sweet 5 month old Scissor beak that I need some help with. I mix her crumble with oatmeal, baby food and applesauce. That seems to be doing the trick. My question is, will this diet shorten her life? Any complications from the sugar? (Unsweetened applesauce). Any help is great! Thank you

That’s a lot of fruit in her diet, all the extras can lower the protein of the original feed. I would try the crumbles with water and make into a slurry. Really that’s all she needs. Maybe the mix you have as a treat once in awhile.

Thank you for your reply. The water/crumble slurry was done at first but she wasn’t interested. I will try the crumble slurry again with just a little applesauce and slowly “wean” herself off the sugar. Thanks again

I have a scissor beak who will be 3 in April. Shes definitely been a handful but shes does fine eating the wet feed slurry. If the consistency isnt right she pitches a fit but once you get it right she gobbles it up. And we ended up with a second scissor beak from a hatchery and she does just fine eating the dry crumbs with the other hens and can eat greens and catch blueberries... that's right catch them. Sorry I'm a little late to the conversation but I just wanted to say she'll do fine.
