Scissor Beak? overnight?

This is my friends Rhode Island Red, approximately 12-14 weeks old, and today we saw her beak is weird, I think is called scissor beak. She is eating and drinking, but is not normal, what do we do? It's as if it appeared overnight. Could she have damaged it on something? Her chickens free range during the day. Any suggestions or advice?

I would carefully look for any signs of a fracture. It does look like crossbeak or scissors beak which is genetic or a result of a vitamin or mineral deficiency, but it usually is noticed earlier. It can progressively get worse as the chick grows. The best thing to do, if it is not injured, is to try and gradually trim the beak to get it more aligned. Do not trim too much as they have a quick, and it can be painful to tough that. Also feed out of a taller heavier bowl, and try wetting the food with water to make it easier to get.
