I have a 12 week old Ameraucana/Easter Egger who I believe has developed something like scoliosis in her neck possibly her back as well. It’s just crooked and her wing hangs down a little. Anyway, she is the absolute sweetest thing I’ve ever incountered. She always wants to be held and basically melts like butter in my arms. She is active and eats and drinks and plays with her flock mates I just wonder if anyone else has seen this in their hens and if she can live a full life with this condition?

Ok so I didn’t really research wry neck before posting this. I didn’t realize wry neck was like scoliosis. Anyway I haven’t noticed it till this last week. Could that be what’s going on? I’m scared it is. Why is it always the sweetest ones with the issues? Not exactly sure how to treat it. I’ll keep researching but would love all the help I can get.

Sorry haven’t had time to take photos. Maybe tonight. I added poultry cell to their water last night which is loaded with lots of different vitamins, because I had it on hand. Any other product recommendations for wry neck?

Wry neck is fairly common and usually a vitamin deficiency. Treatment is vitamin E with a bit of selenium to help with the uptake of the E. They may need a higher dose of E to get it reversed, so using a straight E capsule, just poke it with a needle and squeeze it into her beak, is best. I will attach a link below with more information. If she's having any trouble eating or drinking, you may need to help or hand feed until she can, video at the end of the link. There is also a condition called wry tail, which is genetic. It usually doesn't cause problems other than how they look, they can still live a normal life. Mentioning that since you said you think she may have a crooked back also. There is also a condition called Kinky Back (spondylolisthesis), which is more common in meat birds. Links to all below, hopefully will help. Wry neck is the most common issue.

Thank you so much I’ll look into those. It’s not super noticeable from photos and it’s not even noticeable by the eye but I can feel a twist in her neck and she sometimes looks more like the second photo.

So I added poultry cell to their water and also fed specifically her some feed with a vitamin E squirted in and some sunflower seeds. In the video you sent me the lady mentioned feeding hi protein?

If a bird isn't eating well then upping the protein a little can help get their nutrition in, or come from a food that they like and encourage them to eat. If she can eat her own feed, then you don't need to worry about that. If not, cooked or scrambled egg, canned tuna, even canned cat food, can sometimes tempt them to eat better. The tuna is also a good source of the selenium needed to help the uptake of the vitamin E.
