How big of a run so you think I would need for 30 ducks and 30 chickens so that they didn't turn the area into scorched earth? Space isn't a problem would like to keep the grass though not just an expanse of bare earth...have to keep my wife happy.

There is no hard and fast rule, so if space is not a problem, I would give them as much as you can. The more area you give them the less strain there will be on the grass.

With that many birds Its going to have to be very large, and your best bet is to have 2 and switch back & forth between them to keep the grass. Either "landscape" around your pool for the ducks or move it around so the area around it doesn't get trampled down.

I used to have a flock about that size on a 1/4 acre yard. In the warm months there was plenty of grass, having to mow quite frequently in fact with all of their fertilization. By the end of winter the chicken yard was a solid mud pit with not a shred of covering. Every spring it came back as thick as ever. Dabbling ducks tend to make a mess of things whenever they can.

well the space is 8 square feet per bird is a good start but if it's grass your worried about i would suggest a chicken\duck tractor because they are going to eat up all the grass if left in one area it's just a matter of time
