I just found my new quail pen on CL. I think it will make a really nice one. I bought quail eggs last night so after I get this, I'll be set

Any ideas on if it needs improvement and how to do it?

Yes close in the sides and back, to keep wind off of them. Also place some kind of wire around legs, i u 2 x 4 weld wire ,to keep predator out of under , a coon will eat the legs off the quail, darn thing will pull the legs thru the wire bottom.

You can throw some 3.5mill poly over it when it's cold, but don't box it in quite yet,

Ok, but in your state sure its gets cold, so would have it closed in on the three side, rain and cold wild.........

I was figuring that I would close in the back and sides in the winter and open at least the sides back up during the summer for extra ventilation.

I would put some wire across about the upper half of that door opening or you'll loose them out the top of the door when you open it.

i found out the hard way, 1/2 in. hardware wire front and bottom, went to check my white bobs pen, some dead some missing a whole leg, set a live trap under the pen next night RACOON. A piece of 2x4 weld wire is cheaper than a pair of these bobs....

Racoon are even in most big cities.....Myself all my pens off the ground now have wire around all the legs.........may be lucky and not have it happen, i did for a few years.........NOT A NICE SIGHT TO SEE BIRD HOPPING AROUND WITH ONE LEG, OF PICKING UP A LIVE QUAIL WITH NO LEGS.


Mark my word , you will see post in the preadator section of this happen, to people in the future.
