Can scorpions live in ponds? Something just got one of our 4 week old ducks. Looked like a scorpion.

Thanks!

Did you see the crawdad actually kill your duck, or just eat it? Crawdads eat carrion, so while he may have been eating it, it's unlikely he killed it even if he was as big as a lobster. In fact the duck probably would eat the crawdad. Probably was a turtle that killed him.

Scorpions don't live in water and while some have poisonous stings, they aren't any more dangerous than a wasp and your ducks wold probably eat them, too.

We found him facedown in the water. Everyone was fine just shortly before that. We didn't see anything that could have killed it (dogs, etc). Maybe he was ill and died, and the crawdads just ate him? Very strange.....

If your pond is something other than a kiddy pool and deep enough you probably have snapping turtles and they will get all your ducks. Get rid of the turtles before this happens please. He could have been ill but did you examine the body to see if he had gotten an injury or wound? Most of the time snappers bite big chunks and depending on where that is usually tells whether or not the duck will survive.
