Unless you are wanting fertile eggs and chicks, roosters can be more work than they are worth. They can become aggressive toward you and others. The hens can be over mated. It's up to you.

Hi! Welcome to BYC! We're happy to have you here! I'm not sure how to advise on getting a rooster. Basically you want a nice one, but how do you know ahead of time that's what you're getting. Raising one from a chick gives you the opportunity to sort of train him to be nice.
