I noticed my birds scratching around in the dead leaves that have fallen from the trees. They would sort of kick the leaves back behind them and then sit down, almost like they were perching. Then they would get up and start scratching around in the leaves again.

They seem to enjoy doing in it crunchy things like leaves.

ah, yes. Mine are very attracted to the pine needles in the back yard, and the maple leaves in the front yard (although I try to keep them out of the front yard because then they LOVE to dig around in the ditch right alongside the road, and they have no sense. Two or three times last summer I heard cars honking, went around front, and there the chickens stood on the side of the road and the guineas stood IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, just looking at the big metal boxes with the people in them, and listening to the funny sound the metal boxes made....

Leaves don't suprise me much; 'cause that is where earthworms also like to hide under dontcha know. I bet they find some tasty meals while they are shuffling around.
