Scrawny Chicken

I inherited a chicken from my son (it wandered into his yard). It was missing large areas of feathers and very timid, crouching down whenever I tried to pet it, but never running away. Obviously used to people. Seems very healthy, laying huge eggs and holding her own with the other chickens but I would like to do something about her feather situation. Has anyone ever come across this before?

I'd look her over really carefully for mites. Very nice of you to take her in, hope she does well.

She did have mites. I dusted her with DE as well as adding it to the feed and ground where they all dust themselves. I'll check her again tomorrow and redust if needed but she appears to be loosing more feathers. Other than that, she's a spry, little thing. Thanks.
