I'm new to having chickens and I only have two, as I'm not even supposed to have ANY!! We're in the suburbs in a nice housing sub-division!! Thus my problem... my Easter Egger (both are 24 weeks old btw) hollers and screams this loud "honk-like" yell, at just the top of her lungs??!! Is that normal for a chicken to do?? I'd NEVER heard that before.. I am NOT speaking of the egg song btw. She does THAT quite well ALSO!! I'm REALLY getting concerned because if a neighbor complains, I'll have to get rid of them and honestly that would KILL me!! I'm SO in love with my two girls!! Any ideas as to WHY she may be doing this or how to get her to STOP?? She mainly does it like in the morning before I come to let them out to play and also even while I'm getting their yard area ready with their water, umbrella etc etc... she's just a honking away at the top of her lungs!! My other girl is a Barred Rock. She doesn't usually do this, however lately she's catching on from the other one and this is getting really dangerous!! I'm VERY worried.. NO idea WHAT to do......

First I'd say, don't get too attached if you have chickens where it's illegal to do so. I have a Welsummer that is very vocal (not a problem for me because I live on a farm and there is no one to complain) when there is another chicken in the nest box where she wants to lay, or I haven't let them out of their run soon enough in the day, or someone has looked at her funny, or the dog walks past her.... basically she's just a noisy bird. It happens. Could be yours is squawking because she's impatient and wanting food, water, outside right NOW. I don't know what you can do to quiet her down. I hope you are on good terms with your neighbors (maybe offer them eggs now and then?).

Well... the neighbor to the left has also got two chickens. The one on the right is my hair dresser and we're all on good terms!! We give them eggs also!! In back there's a pond... SO I'm just praying the honking don't travel too far??!!

Sounds like those neighbors shouldn't be a problem then!

I will do thank you!! Btw, it's almost 8:30 am now and she's out there screaming her head off cause I haven't taken them out to the backyard yet!! Honestly I DO think she's calling me....
