Here in NC we have granit quarries so I was able to pick up 3/4 ton of sifted granite for $10 rather than buy bagged sand at the local building supply store. So my question is has anyone ever used this in their run and if so how did it work for you? And can I add this to my garden? Thoughts anyone?

I use straw and It works very well. Although some wood shavings are not good for chickens (cedar I think).
As far as granite. The chickens might eat it but I'm not sure if that is O.K. for them or not.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have been using sand in my coop and it works great, but a little pricey by the bag. It's more like a cat litter box and very easy to clean and dries quickly if it gets wet, which is why I wanted to use it or something like it in my run.
