With the Rhode island red chickens what are the usual amount of eggs that is laid in a day? They will be organic raised and feed the

same way.

From baby chicks how long will it take before laying starts?

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Rhode Island Reds are known for being excellent layers. You should expect them to lay an egg about every day, at least in their first few years of their lives. Then they will start slowing down. The pullets generally start laying around 20-25 weeks of age. But, this is just average so don't be alarmed if yours start a little earlier or later.

Have you checked out our learning center yet? TONS of helpful info there! https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Greetings from Kansas and :welcome. Pleased you joined us. Once they get in the swing they will lay for several days in a row...but it won't be one egg a day every day for a year. I think somewhere between 260-280 (my numbers ma be off a little) eggs per year from a chicken is considered quite prolific. Good luck to you!

I had some hatchery RIR and found they are excellent layers, starting at around 5 months of age. Very friendly birds too!
