How exciting, Kathy!

Laura, I really like Zeb.

LH had some high drama at her house tonight and it ain't over yet, involving the sumo kung-fu chicken, Delilah, also known as DeDe, Suede's 4 yr old daughter. Bad DeDe! LH called me at about 8:45 p.m. as she was outside with several others from her household, spotlighting the woodline looking for that bad girl, who, for some unknown reason, as they were going into the coop, took off for the woods and disappeared. Lancelot was beside himself and LH will probably not get any sleep tonight if they don't find that nutty hen. Makes no sense why Delilah, who has managed to avoid the fox and the coyote would suddenly take off for the woods at dusk. She wasn't acting broody and I don't think she has even been laying since almost dying in the heat incident that killed the others. I'm mad at her for making LH stressed out again!

Please think some good thoughts for Delilah tonight, in case she's hunkered down to pass the night. We don't want her to get snatched by some predator, of course. She's black, but still smells like a chicken, and that area is crawling with predators.

Black chickens are having bad luck today.

Lost my big jersey giant hen. Weird circumstances, not sure what happened. Looks like a freak accident....but weird things have happened lately too.

Poor big honking hen.

Yep. She was wedged in the nestbox and it was tipped back over onto the opening......

But eggs in that box have gone missing lately and the lid has been knocked off a few times or it has been moved a few feet. Something weird is going on........it may be unrelated....but still weird.

She was my jersey giant hen I got way back in the day. One of my first chickens. One of the last 7 of my original hens. She was 2.5 years old so not too old but not a young whippersnapper either.

To the left here. Hard to miss her since she was so big.

Very odd indeed.

ETA: I have to have labs done at the Dr in the a.m. so am going to bed. LH can call me if she finds DeDe, but otherwise, guess I'll find out what happened in the morning. Goodnight, all.

Happy hatching, Kathy!

Laura his legs are so yellow...whatcha feeding them? They look great! Mine are about the same age and from Kathy
as well, but the legs are so much lighter...(just posted pics on the BR thread). I really think the lower corn in my
feed plus the intense FL sun is bleaching them out. ALL my yellow legged breeds have light yellow or creme legs.
This confirms our theory even more, don't you think, Kathy?

Love the name Zeb...and Rex, too. Mine has been Zippy early on...he had to zip around the brooder
to keep from being pecked he was so slow to feather out.

It is fun watching these guys grow up

Yup, that one definitely looks orangey Kathy!

I'm super interested in the potential Barred Buff birds, that was one of the possible colors right?
