I don't get it, either. They see parrots and parakeets, useless things they are. Don't even lay eggs big enough to eat, sheesh. Can't take the cold, either, and have to live in the house with you.

LH, I got June's egg today. I also put Maretta's in the collection, figuring you may want a barred Easter Egger. Maretta's eggs are the prettiest turquoise blue.

Well, Good Gawd..... I am off working and all H3LL breaks loose. Good grief!

Hope all is well, or at least, better!

Penicillin..... that crap is thick. I always use an 18 gauge with that. Never can get it through those smaller lumen needles.

Good luck, Amy!

Those were pretty much my thoughts too ladies.

I agree fully with both sentiments. Oh, how I would love to be a vet. I'd set the veterinarian world on its ear! They'd probably all run screaming in horror at the animals I wouldn't turn away from my door! What the heck is the difference between Cleo and some big old gawdy parrot?!? Well, beyond the obvious.....price being one of them.....but I don't equate a life's dollar value with their value to the people who know them. If ya ask me, Cleo is worth twenty big maccaw's! At least she has the potential to make breakfast for us!

And speaking of Cleo....she's acting more and more chipper all of the time. If I can just keep infection at bay, I think she'll make it. Though she is going to have a rather strange feather arrangement if she does. I fear the poor little dear is going to be in dire need of a feather wig!

That's the only section that I truly worry about, as it is completely missing. It wasn't just a matter of I couldn't stitch it up. There simply isn't anything there to stitch. It's like she was scalped on the back of her head.

I am keeping it well slathered with the ointment in the hopes that the skin can regenerate from the edges inward. It happens with humans...I just hope it can happen in chickens!

18 guage??? I would want to die! That's awful.

Serrin, call a vet and tell them that you have a ground parrot.

I'm so sick of poor attitudes about chickens. "It's only a chicken"? It's only a snake, parrot, gerbil, tarantula. Someone said "it's only worth a buck", well my free horse is only worth a buck. That's not the point. The point is to have someone, an educated doctor, empathize with you. If they were smart, they would at least say, "I don't know about chickens, but I'm willing to look at her and see what I can do". Some people are so stupid! Sheesh!

They all know about chickens but do not want to remember. Heck my Equine vet that works in a multi-million dollar Equine facility comes here to see my horse and ends up looking a my roo who had a battle with a fox, leaves me with antibiotics and gets followed all over the property by chickens and ducks ... he told me any vet can treat a chicken they just dont want to. He said simply a wound is a wound and a vet can work on it period.

Ha. It might be because a "Livestock" vet may feel a bit of pressure because of chickens being livestock. And alot of the meds we use for chickens are meds for cows, pigs, and goats just smaller amounts.

At times, I have found some good meds from sites that deal with those birds that people keep for hunting, the ones they put blinders on. Hawks? Expensive birds.

Well, all I know is that a good many vets could benefit greatly from having sensitivity training included in their education! The very idea that a chicken is worth less than a parakeet is downright repulsive to me! I guess that they've forgotten who makes those eggs for their grand slam breakfasts!

Robin, ya got a great idea there! Ground Parrot!?! Oh that's a good one!

I could just imagine the receptionist confusion and puzzlement on the other end of the line when I request an appointment for a Ground Parrot!!!!

And when she/he hasn't a clue, then I hit them with a Latin name. "Yes dear, Surely you're familiar with the humble Gallus Muttumus?!?" Hooohoooohooohoo!!! I could certainly get them chasing their tails with that one!

That would soooo be worth it, just to put those snotty receptionists in their place! I swear, I get more disgusted at their attitude than anything else!

Cleo seems to be doing just fine this morning. Still no sign of infection, for which I am exceedingly grateful! I'm keeping her well coated with the tri-biotic ointment. Thankfully, she can't reach it in her preening, so I don't think she's ingesting any.....something I've been worried about, as the label clearly states for external use only!

I'm in a holding pattern, waiting for this third vets office to open this morning. I'll call them at that time, and hopefully they'll be able to see her today. I think enough time has passed that there's nothing more that could be done for Cleo from a surgical standpoint. Denny thinks I did a pretty good job of stitching her up, but I still worry about whether I got the wound cleaned out well enough or not.

Please keep those healing thoughts coming, my little chicken family. She needs every bit of help she can get! And so do I!!!
