Thanks Cyn. That's great information to have. Especially about the saline dilution and warming it up so she doesn't squirm from the shot. Now I just need to know how much to administer to her. And if I ever do have to dilute it due to thickening, how much, and how do I go about it? I would imagine one would have to extract a certain amount from the bottle and then draw up some sterile saline, leave a bit of an air gap and then shake the living daylights out of it?

I'm sooooooo clueless!

Evie is not an especially large bird. If I had to guess at her weight, I'd put her at right around 4 to 5 pounds. I do intend to weigh her before we get all of this madness underway. I have a wonderful and very accurate postal scale for just such occasions!

To the best of your knowledge Cyn, is there a chart somewhere around here with the dosing amounts in correlation to how much the bird weighs? That sure would be handy. I suppose I could just Google it, but time is precious these days, and I get so easily distracted.

Why do you think all of my posts end up so long winded? Distractions, I tell ya! Distractions!

Y'all have a great afternoon.

Oh yeah, almost forgot again. Tim, if you have a farm museum anywhere in your neck of the woods, try contacting them. They may have a fully restored unit in their collection. And even if they don't, they'll probably have a pretty good idea of where you might be able to get your hands on a copy of the original instruction manual. Heck, even just an illustration page with all of the components and their function listed would be of great assistance to you right now, I should think! Good luck on that and please keep us posted on how you're coming along with it. As I said before, I've seen a couple of them fully restored and they are a beautiful sight to behold when they're completely intact and in working order!

For something tough like staph, I'd use about 3/4 cc once daily, in the breast muscle. 1/2 cc is the normal dose for a standard size chicken, 1/4 cc for a bantam, if I remember correctly. Even if you use that, you'd still have to get the solidified infection out.

‎3 teeth pulled, my jawbone ground down and drilled...somehow I think I could have found several things more fun to do for my Friday afternoon and much less painful for my Friday night. *sigh*

Night Night all....

Beth...it will be near the very end of the month maybe 1st or 2nd of Nov...right before Coggins is expires...every available horse transporter is spending the next 2 plus weeks transporting horses from the World Equestrian games....closing ceremonies are this Sunday. Our driver will not be available before the 29th of October...he said he would call me if he gets a couple days off before that time. So, I am going to be cutting it close but if need be, I will pay for another Coggins....I am calculating it from the 4th...the day the test should have been done with her shots...so that gives me through the 3rd clear to get her into Kentucky without a redo on the Coggins. I will keep you posted.

I think so, too! OMGosh, this makes me think THAT bird has to be a relative of these chicks. I do not see feathered legs in the ones I just got from Jenn. But those other ones ........ Well, maybe that is where they originated from then. Obviously, they are from Paul Bradshaw (Greenfire Farms). Hmmmm, gives me pause here.
