. Hedwig has some dellie neck markings and tail but that is about it..I love that quilt it turned out beautifully.

Beth, I was doing stall demo this evening when DH stopped me to come inside because it was dark and I needed to eat...heck food can be forgotten when one is focused on something else, like...oh I don't know...making Joleta's 12 x 12 stall maybe?

As soon as the transport guy gives me the dates, I am calling the new farrier to let him know when she will be here. I want him to come meet Joleta and look at her feet and etc so he knows "her" before his services are actually needed. He is such an awesome farrier and man in general. Oh btw does Joleta cross tie and behave herself for the farrier? I am picking up cross tie rings to install in the support beams of the barn and wondered if that was going to be a learning experience for her. I also want to know whether Tom (farrier) needs any warnings ahead of time. hehehe

Okay time to eat hubby is nagging me. LOL I am off to dentist again tomorrow so not sure how much posting there will be from me tomorrow. Wish me luck as I get 4 more teeth pulled.

Moved the biggest of my most recent batch of "babies" out to the big flock tonight. I kept the 4 smallest in the covered pen and rabbit hutch for now. The other 6 are nearly the size of a bantam cochin and bigger than my 2 d'uccles, so hopefully they can manage to keep themselves safe from the hawk. There are 2 girls and 4 boys, I think.....possibly 3 and 3......

Fingers crossed!

The rooster who got his butt kicked is doing good. Still looks like poop but is acting GREAT, eating and drinking well and was clucking up a storm when the girls got into the garage near the brooder earlier.

He is spending his time in a 4x6 brooder shed all by himself, so is probably thrilled to death. Only a sexy hen would make his life better right now LOL.

On a sidenote, I can't wait until all my brooders are empty so I can do a deep clean.....chickens are such gross little creatures sometimes

I took a good look at my rooster pen today. ALL 4 boys have 'marks' on their faces and combs.....but the mille roo, as expected, has way more than everyone else. Little jerk......He is such a booger.

My Delaware rooster, Oliver, about got a butt kickin' today. Thank goodness I was outside. My biggest Heritage Barred Rock took Oliver for a ride. When I came around the building, I found Oliver in the Barred Rocks run (where no one else has ever wandered), with his head hidden at the base of a tree. I was scared to look. I picked him up and saw blood all over his hackles. I took him inside and cleaned him up. I still am not sure where all the blood came from, but it appears it was all from his comb. He now has a little "sprig" looking piece on the side of his comb. Otherwise, he seems to be ok (physically). I hope he is okay anyway.

Yes 4 more and get this...I set the appointment last week and told her which 4 to schedule to be pulled...Saturday I broke off one of them as I was waking up...tonight DH takes me out to eat as I we know it will be a couple days at least without solid food...I am about 3/4 through a delicious meal and I crack off another of the 4.

So, of the 4 to be pulled tomorrow, 2 are now broken off with just a tony piece outside the gum for him to grab.

I have a suspicion that tomorrow's visit is going to be a real bear now. Gosh I want this over...once these 4 are gone then only 3 more on the top and they can put my plate in...well, when I gather up another $1000.00. But hey, at the start of last week I was gathering 1650.00 so I am getting there. YAY

I will call you and try to mumble my very best.

You need to bring Zane inside and put him in the playpen in front of the TV...let him watch some movies, have some grapes and muffins for a 24 hour crowd break. Tell him I would do it for him and even hold him so he could get a view of the TV. Rub his wattles for me.

you poor thing - I HATE dentists! Good luck! Jo crossed tied when she was showing, so I expect she will remember how if you give her a lesson or two before he comes. I never put them in my barn, I always held her for the farrier, and she has no problem with farriers or vets. She will love the 12 x 12, it is what she had here.
You have to eat to keep up your strength!!!!

Kathy- poor Oliver, I hope he recovers - hiding his little head in the tree! Well, you can always send him here!!!

Cyn- I think you just need to open a chicken hospital- poor kids! But I bet Zane likes the company, even if they aren't up to too much chatter with him.

I have a whopper of a cold - am hoping I can take the day off work and sleep it off, but EVERYONE at work is sick, so I need to see if my coworker is sicker than I am - my boss is just recovering from it and has appointments, so I made need to go in for at least part of the day. Yuck.

Morning all.....

Seems y'all have all been BUSY since I left Friday.

Opening weekend was relatively successful for us...saw plenty of deer. Landon (my 15 yr old) killed a nice 8 point Sunday morning. He also shot a wild boar that bottomed out a 300lb set of scales...it was an OLD NASTY looking rascal with HUGE tusks. I shot a 110lb wild hawg sow Sunday evening that is now being processed for wintertime chili and stew

I woke up to "chicks" this morning from my Columbian Rock fertility hatch (like I need chicks this time of year huh!!) Right now one is out and 8 of the remaining 9 are pipped. Hope they all hatch quickly so I can get them into the brooder before rain comes....we are "praying" for some to get to us tonight.

Off to catch up on emails and hopefully do a little job-hunting....have a great day

Beth - hope you get to feeling better

Ladyhawk - soooo sooooorrryyyy about your teeth again. What a pain (no pun intended)

Beth...good to know she has done that before. Yay. I will hold her for the farrier but I like to crosstie for baths and grooming

Kathy how is Oliver this morning?

Cyn, how are Nelda and Maxie doing this morning?

Okay...I am off like a flock of turtles

Nelda's crop was bad, completely impacted, so we did crop surgery before breakfast (which I may not eat now, LOL. The smell, ick!). It was full of normal free range stuff, vegetation, small feathers, small grains she's eaten. No way it would have passed through. She may not make it, but it was clear that we had no other choice. It went pretty well, though, and she seems alert and is on her feet in the brooder in my office.

Maxie's crop is fine. She was clamouring to get out of the cage this morning and go on her digging rounds. She still has that hard mass, but at least she doesn't look like she's on death's doorstep.
