Hiya Gang! Sorry I'm so late tonight and that I have to keep this so brief. But it's already a lot later than I wanted to get to bed in light of my early to rise time these days.
Be that as it may, I did want to let y'all know I'm still alive and kicking as hard as ever.
First up on the agenda......Evie's foot has gotten much worse. I changed her dressings again yesterday [third set of dressings including the original set] and the top of her foot looked absolutely grotesque! It looked more like a bumble than the actual bumble on the bottom of her foot ever dreamed of looking like! So, DH helped hold her while I went at this thing from the top. It was then that my lack of knowledge really let itself be known.
When I had excised the bumble from the bottom of her foot last weekend, I thought I had pretty much gotten all of it. Little did I know! That thing apparently encompasses the entire center pad of her foot.
So, all of that digging and picking around, and smooshing the salve in with a syringe was for naught! I swear she's worse off than before I started in on her.
Now my question to y'all is, "What now"? Having gone in from the top I learned a number of things. First, that the bumble is much larger than I originally thought. Second, even though I pulled out considerably more yuck this time, I know darn good and well that there's a whole lot more still in there! I can see it, once I blot out the blood with a sterile pad, [and this time she bled like a stuck pig!] but it's too big to come out through whole in the top of her foot. I would also fear not having gotten it all because I can't see well enough into the abcess.
What I need to know is how all of you would go about getting the rest of this crap out of my poor little girls foot so she can proceed with healing and not spend her life gimping around and looking like hawk fodder!? Should I just keep trying to get as much as I can every few days from the hole in the top? [my least favorite option for obvious reasons] or should I cut an "X" on the bottom of her foot and dig and flush that sucker out of there? Or, is there a better solution than either of these proposals? If I do cut an "X" on the bottom of her foot, can I, or even should I, put a suture or two into the incision in the hopes of a more rapid healing?
I sure hope most of you get a chance to read this, think about it, and post your advice before tomorrow evening. I think I'll be doing something, [right, wrong or indifferent] by tomorrow night. I have to! She can't keep going like this!!
In the mean time, would a 1/2 ml shot of Penicillin be in order since I still haven't gotten the upper hand on this bumble foot business?
OK, enough about me and my problems!
...................
Scott! Pat those boys on the back and tell them I said a pair of big
on their hunting prowess! I am absolutely impressed that lads so young can keep their heads in the face of wild hog, not to mention some very nice sounding deer! Pictures, sweetheart? You did take pictures, didn't you??? Did you post them and somehow I missed them? As we say in my family: Pictures....or it didn't happen!
Be very proud of your boys there Papa, and be sure to let them know just how proud you are of them. It means the world to them!
OK, OK, I'll get off of my parenting soap box now!
Cetawin: I'm so sorry that Sedation Dentistry isn't in the cards for you. As are any of the pain killers that would normally be prescribed for anyone going through the ordeal that you are soldiering on through. Your DH is right! You are a trooper! I know I wouldn't last five minutes with that kind of pain.
I hope you can find some kind of relief and get to feeling better real soon. Just keep telling yourself that this too shall come to pass!
Nella, those brooders are awesome!
What magnificent quarantine/hospital facilities those would make as well! And who among us hasn't ever had the need of such a structure on more than one occasion!?! I might have to have Denny build me a couple three or four of those in the toy shed just so that I have someplace
other than my pump house to put a sick bird in!
Heck, I'd even let him build those on to the north side of the pump house for that matter! It would be out of the wind, and the killer sun in the summer. Ohhhh boy! You've got the old wheels spinning in my head now girl!!!
KATHY!?!?!? You quit your job?!?
Oh lordy woman! I'm sorry that the conditions deteriorated to that point.
Just a couple of curiosity questions for ya.....The house in Iowa: Is it costing you money or is it rented out and at this time a source of income? If you sold it now, could you get a fair price for it? More than what you owe on it?
Lots of things to consider, I know. If you're not hurting for the money right this minute, I think I'd hold on to it if it were me. Especially if you have a positive cash flow on it. [i.e. getting more in rents than is being paid out on mortgage payments, insurance, repairs etc]
For now, I hope you'll just take each day as it comes to you. Relax. You've more than earned this little vacation. And just think of all the fun you can have with your babies, for a few weeks at any rate! I hope full retirement is possible for you, Kathy. I know we [DH and I] love it and can't imagine where we ever found the time to go to a paying job.
There's so much to be done right here! Retirement? I highly recommend it!!
Beth! I love what you've got going over at the Del site. It's looking real good, and I am definitely looking forward to the next meeting. When is that again? Next Tuesday? 9PM EST?? Let me know if I've got that right or wrong. I wouldn't want to be late or a no show again. Things are getting very exciting and moving so fast now! I'd love to put my hand in and stir the pot on the history page(s) And of course I'm just full of advice!
OK kiddiwinks! It's gotten MUCH later than when I set out to just post a quick note on our status up here. I really have to head off to bed so I can get up at that ridiculous 4AM again!
Hope everyone has a marvelous Thursday, and a relaxing weekend ahead.
