Cyn...it would be no trouble. I was feeding Zen and the foals this evening. I mean my mouth and face hurt but the rest of me works fine.

They are yours when you want them.

Cyn, I could bring you more Del eggs for Tom if you want a bigger hatch - also there is a guy in Statesville with very nice BBS Americaunas, Brad Fox. I have his number. Don't know if he ships, but maybe we could work out something. He is a little over two hours from me.
OR I could give you eggs from my BBS Orps, they would be Suede grandchildren. A drive through the gorge right now would be beautiful.

Kathy- Sell the dang house and be retired!!!!! Seriously. But if you don't, I hope you find a great job and that they appreciate you the way you deserve to be appreciated.

I still feel crappy. I NEVER have stuff hang on like this. Cetawin, that Frangelico is sounding better and better!

Nella, publish those plans for us! Scott, you would build us all some, right?

Beth...I like to warm it just a touch or warm some Brandy. Makes me feel much better.

You could make my homemade cough syrup and take a touch of that...

2 C Flavored brandy (flavor of your choice)
1 C Sugar

Put in medium saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and sugar is dissolved. Let cool off slightly and bottle.

1 Tbsp every 4 hours for cough and/or chest congestion

The nice thing about it...I can give it to the kids and it warms you from the inside out because of the brandy so it opens the airways and makes it possible to sleep. It does work wonders Beth.

Beth, you are such a love! Thanks so much, but you are feeling crappy, just like Ladyhawk, and I wouldn't dream of putting either of you to any trouble right now. I'm not even 100% sure of Emily's broody state, so we have to cross that bridge first. I'm sort of with Tom on the breed thing, the more I think about it. I love my Barred and Blue Rocks as well as my BBS Ameraucanas, but am not going to keep BBS Orps any longer. Suede broke the mold for me and he will be the only Blue Orp rooster to rule here. I'll just give Emmy the eggs from Ellie and maybe one or two from June, my EE girl, who produced Chipper and Hedwig. Maybe this time I'll get a pullet from her and Ike. I'll get my little birds in the spring when the next broody pops up.

That cough syrup sounds great right now! I'll have to get some brandy to keep here just for that purpose. Heck, why not? Dang Nyquil is about 20% alcohol and tastes disgusting!

BTW, the quilt is completed. Here is how the binding looks:

What am I supposed to make plans of again? LOL

I gave up tonight and after 2 months of trying to teach my youngest batch of chicks to go into a coop at night, I just put them back into a brooder in the garage. And realized something funny. They are from a broody hatch a while back. 2 Silkie/EE crosses, 1 EE/Cochin, and 3 bantam cochins....And of this hatch....5 are pullets! LOL. I had 1 more chick but lost her pretty early on. And almost positive it was a she too. Can't beat a hatch of 8......7 pullets, 1 rooster.

Alright, brb, gotta go buy a lotto ticket.

Scott, remember i said i had bad luck with the chicks i got from you? well, I did end up with 2 of the blue rock/dellie chicks. 1 boy, 1 girl! The boy has only 1 eye these days......long story. He has been in a brooder in the garage for a month or so.....but I moved the girl, and the 3 bantam cochin girls, plus 1 bantam cochin boy I had from another sale...all into that brooder with him tonight, since i am tired of catching them every night. They are a super cute bunch. Darn it, should have taken pix. The silkie/EE and cochin/EE along with some blue brahma project birds went into the big flock instead. My little one eyed guy was so happy to have friends again

Cyn it really works...it helps you breathe and sleep and just makes you feel warm and better. It is nothing different than the nasty stuff in the store without the preservatives and chemicals added. It will crystalize over time (a couple - several of months depending on how well you got it mixed when making it) so I use amber glass bottles that I can set in boiling water to heat it up again

No there will never be another Suede that is for sure nor will there be another Thor
hit.gif
but I am going to keep my Suede descendants and carrying on with his line as long as I have Orps.

Hiya Gang! Sorry I'm so late tonight and that I have to keep this so brief. But it's already a lot later than I wanted to get to bed in light of my early to rise time these days.
roll.png
Be that as it may, I did want to let y'all know I'm still alive and kicking as hard as ever.

First up on the agenda......Evie's foot has gotten much worse. I changed her dressings again yesterday [third set of dressings including the original set] and the top of her foot looked absolutely grotesque! It looked more like a bumble than the actual bumble on the bottom of her foot ever dreamed of looking like! So, DH helped hold her while I went at this thing from the top. It was then that my lack of knowledge really let itself be known.

When I had excised the bumble from the bottom of her foot last weekend, I thought I had pretty much gotten all of it. Little did I know! That thing apparently encompasses the entire center pad of her foot.
hit.gif
So, all of that digging and picking around, and smooshing the salve in with a syringe was for naught! I swear she's worse off than before I started in on her.

Now my question to y'all is, "What now"? Having gone in from the top I learned a number of things. First, that the bumble is much larger than I originally thought. Second, even though I pulled out considerably more yuck this time, I know darn good and well that there's a whole lot more still in there! I can see it, once I blot out the blood with a sterile pad, [and this time she bled like a stuck pig!] but it's too big to come out through whole in the top of her foot. I would also fear not having gotten it all because I can't see well enough into the abcess.

What I need to know is how all of you would go about getting the rest of this crap out of my poor little girls foot so she can proceed with healing and not spend her life gimping around and looking like hawk fodder!? Should I just keep trying to get as much as I can every few days from the hole in the top? [my least favorite option for obvious reasons] or should I cut an "X" on the bottom of her foot and dig and flush that sucker out of there? Or, is there a better solution than either of these proposals? If I do cut an "X" on the bottom of her foot, can I, or even should I, put a suture or two into the incision in the hopes of a more rapid healing?

I sure hope most of you get a chance to read this, think about it, and post your advice before tomorrow evening. I think I'll be doing something, [right, wrong or indifferent] by tomorrow night. I have to! She can't keep going like this!!

In the mean time, would a 1/2 ml shot of Penicillin be in order since I still haven't gotten the upper hand on this bumble foot business?

OK, enough about me and my problems!

Scott! Pat those boys on the back and tell them I said a pair of big
thumbsup.gif
on their hunting prowess! I am absolutely impressed that lads so young can keep their heads in the face of wild hog, not to mention some very nice sounding deer! Pictures, sweetheart? You did take pictures, didn't you??? Did you post them and somehow I missed them? As we say in my family: Pictures....or it didn't happen!
lol.png
Be very proud of your boys there Papa, and be sure to let them know just how proud you are of them. It means the world to them!

OK, OK, I'll get off of my parenting soap box now!

Cetawin: I'm so sorry that Sedation Dentistry isn't in the cards for you. As are any of the pain killers that would normally be prescribed for anyone going through the ordeal that you are soldiering on through. Your DH is right! You are a trooper! I know I wouldn't last five minutes with that kind of pain.
hugs.gif
I hope you can find some kind of relief and get to feeling better real soon. Just keep telling yourself that this too shall come to pass!
hugs.gif

Nella, those brooders are awesome!
thumbsup.gif
What magnificent quarantine/hospital facilities those would make as well! And who among us hasn't ever had the need of such a structure on more than one occasion!?! I might have to have Denny build me a couple three or four of those in the toy shed just so that I have someplace other than my pump house to put a sick bird in!
lol.png
Heck, I'd even let him build those on to the north side of the pump house for that matter! It would be out of the wind, and the killer sun in the summer. Ohhhh boy! You've got the old wheels spinning in my head now girl!!!
lol.png

KATHY!?!?!? You quit your job?!?
th.gif
Oh lordy woman! I'm sorry that the conditions deteriorated to that point.
hugs.gif
Just a couple of curiosity questions for ya.....The house in Iowa: Is it costing you money or is it rented out and at this time a source of income? If you sold it now, could you get a fair price for it? More than what you owe on it?

Lots of things to consider, I know. If you're not hurting for the money right this minute, I think I'd hold on to it if it were me. Especially if you have a positive cash flow on it. [i.e. getting more in rents than is being paid out on mortgage payments, insurance, repairs etc]

For now, I hope you'll just take each day as it comes to you. Relax. You've more than earned this little vacation. And just think of all the fun you can have with your babies, for a few weeks at any rate! I hope full retirement is possible for you, Kathy. I know we [DH and I] love it and can't imagine where we ever found the time to go to a paying job.
gig.gif
There's so much to be done right here! Retirement? I highly recommend it!!

Beth! I love what you've got going over at the Del site. It's looking real good, and I am definitely looking forward to the next meeting. When is that again? Next Tuesday? 9PM EST?? Let me know if I've got that right or wrong. I wouldn't want to be late or a no show again. Things are getting very exciting and moving so fast now! I'd love to put my hand in and stir the pot on the history page(s) And of course I'm just full of advice!
lol.png

OK kiddiwinks! It's gotten MUCH later than when I set out to just post a quick note on our status up here. I really have to head off to bed so I can get up at that ridiculous 4AM again!
th.gif
Hope everyone has a marvelous Thursday, and a relaxing weekend ahead.

Hi Ladies- I just want to say that the meeting was fun last night. I am so excited about getting started on the Delaware. I hope we all make big stides with them. Well, I will talk to you soon~ Tacey

Delaware site? Meeting> Waaaaa what am I mising? Do I have to be a Dellie breeder to play?

Right now I am playing with my new Droid Incredible...loving it BTW but wow it is a lot of technology for someone loopy.

Amy...get you a suture kit from the Equine section of TSC, Southern States or a Co-op..use it if you need to do sutures. Is a vet a possibility? If not, then I would get out what I could from the top and the bottom...give her a day or so and go at it again until you can get it all. Remember to run her penicillin for 4 or 5 days straight...then take a few days off...then 4 or 5 days....etc etc.

ANYTHING would taste better than the yuck I took last night- I will stop at ABC on the way home!

You guys know that anytime you want eggs from me, you have them- Cetawin, if you want a stab at Suede's line through Ultrasuede, you let me know, and eggs are yours! Cyn- Dels, Orps, whatever. I would not HAVE chickens if it wasn't for you all, remember?

I posted about the Del club and the meetings agesa ago, did you all sleep through them? Or does it just prove you don't always read al lof my posts?

Meetings at this point on Tuesdays 9:00 pm EST at the chatzy.com address (thanks Cetawin for suggesting Chatzy- it is super easy to use) Kathy has provided some awesome pictures, there are a few of mine in there, and some other people's.
