Bad News LH....i found the barred girl dead today. Just in the middle of the yard, no obvious injuries. The way she was laying was kind of strange.....kind of like Nicole, she looked like she was about to be mounted.....I"m having some trouble with my drake chasing roosters and caught him this morning hanging off the back of a RIR hen's neck...might need to make a duck pen. I thought it was a hawk attack since it was in the middle of the yard, but there was no blood or injuries. The dogs haven't been out back in a day or two since one of them isn't feeling well.....so not them either. No idea.

Your little broody hen has babies though. I hear peeping! I haven't looked yet, but will in a little bit.

Cetwain... I just saw the link to the collar you posted.. unfortunately, thats way out of my price range, but I did find one similar, with the 100 levels of shock/vibration that I'll be ordering come Monday (When VA money gets here) http://www.amazon.com/Two-dog-Training-Collars-DISPLAY-Control/dp/B003E3QTIC I expect Splat to be a big whiner the first few times. Beth-Thank You! I do too, and yes, it REALLY helps having the dogs here. It keeps predatory animals at bay (Haven't heard a yote since we moved up here) even the avian ones (hawks/vultures) haven't chanced a visit to the yard.

Frog is doing great this morning

Eating, drinking, clucking, pooping and has moved around some in her little box.

I'm gonna go ahead and leave the wound dressing for one more day then get it cleaned off and look at it again. I do hope when the skin grows back she'll grow feathers too. She was eggstatic when I brought her scrambled eggs, she woofed about 10 mouthfuls down before she stopped for a breath

The rest of the younger group of chickens is none too happy about being locked in thier run... but, they'll have to deal with it for a few days, till the shock collars get here. To add insult to injury, they practically spit daggers at the adult layer group, who is free ranging since they've got 2 grown Roo's protecting them, when they saw me let em out

I hope yall are having a terrific morning!!!! I feel much better after yesterday. And we're going to pick up the goats today

so yay!!!!!

Nicole that is great! I am so glad Frog is doing so well...she was probably just in a bit of shock last night. Keep up the excellent work!

You want to watch for infection...that is the biggie. can you give shots? If you can, get some pencillin and give her a couple days worth of that. Cyn can help with the dosage.

For wounds, we do give pen-G injections, 1/2 cc per standard size bird and 1/4 cc for bantams, in the breast muscle once daily.

Cetawin, I checked under your girl and the very loud peeping was an olive egg that was zipping. So i didnt get to see it yet. It was close to hatching though.

The baby was out but looked like it had hatched early.....big ol yolk bubble butt. Another egg had gotten smashed and was disgusting so i had to move them to a new box. It was a little yellow chick

i'll keep my fingers crossed it does well and recheck it in the morning. I am considering pulling it and giving it to the other mom and baby......I need 'your' girl to keep sitting! Those eggs were staggered under the original mom so I am going to swap them from nest to nest until they make it 21 days, LOL.

I had a super productive day. Killed a weed whacker.....went out and bought a new one that is AMAZING....plus tons of building stuff. Lots more plywood and fencing and also one of those concrete mixing pans. I want to build a duck brooder next!

Anywho, I finished the double brooder finally. Will work on finishing the 4x4 pen tomorrow hopefully. First pic is blurry but shows the latches.....2nd pic is not blurry but pre-latches.
