Weeeeelllll now! That was interesting! We just had a power outage that lasted a little over an hour. About 10 minutes after my last post, I was happily looking over other threads when *POOF*! Power outage!

It is a bit blustery out there. And the rain had been coming down by the buckets full. Just a tempest in a teapot really. Here just long enough to knock out the power. Thank heavens I wasn't in the middle of a big update on my page!

That could have made for a very unhappy camper here!

OK, time to go take care of chickypeas! They're probably just as confused by that little blip in the power supply as the dog was! It wasn't quite daylight yet, you see. The boys didn't even notice as they have no lights in their coop. But I know I heard some startled squawking coming from the big coop when the heat lamp went out!

Y'all have a great day. Stay warm, stay safe, and don't forget to hug your chickens!!

Wow, this thread moves so fast it takes forever to catch up...

LH, so sorry to read about your sister, I will continue to pray for her.

Cyn, thanks for posting a while back the design of your heated waterer. DH made one for our coop using an old canning pot. It has worked well except for the past couple of days with the temps in the single digits. I may have to put a higher watt bulb in there temporarily. I love the quilt, it is beautiful!

Nick, I was born in Egglanta [many years ago] but grew up in Columbus.

I enjoyed seeing all the pics.

AMY ! ! !

OH my gosh! Thank you so so much! The Dream Catcher is wonderful ! It is so special. You did a marvelous job on this beauty, too. I can hardly wait for Mike to get home to see it. Maggie and the girls helped by providing the feathers .... awwww, aren't they just so sweet!

Your thoughtfulness will not be forgotten. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Amy! You are a treasure, and a special friend always!

Aw, how sweet of you, Amy! Great bunch of folks here in this thread.

Nugget is going into Day 11 tomorrow, so I put on my rat stompers and military parka and headed to the coop with DH, taking the flashlight that my son (who is overseas now) left with us. Four of the eggs belong to my Delaware Ellie and the fifth belongs to Riley, my blue barred EE hen. I'm a bit perplexed by what we saw. Only Riley's is what I'd consider normal for this far along. One is definitely gone--looks like little more than a meat spot. The other three, two of which were dancing around, look like you'd see on Day 6-7, not 10/11. I don't know why Ellie's aren't developing properly. Will re candle in three or four days to see if the others are trying to catch up or if they expire. Nugget is covering them all very well, so it's not her fault. This is disconcerting.

On a possible bright side, Brown's feed is still getting chicks so I may be able to grab a couple there to give her, but I don't want to get any of the most common standard breeds due to all the ones from that hatchery dying from internal laying over the past couple of years. May have to grab a bantam from the assorted bin, but except for bantam Cochins and Silkies, they just have them all together so I'll have to try to identify them and see if I can find a D'uccle.

Amy,
I just got off the phone with Mike. I had to read your letter to him. He is so excited about this, and can hardly wait to see it. He said, "I am so happy they are in such a good home!" It is so special for so many reasons. The feathers seemed to be meant for this project. Amazing how you found them! The green glass stone to represent Maggie's eggs .... heartwarming!

OK, I got it right now. I hung it there (in the kitchen) for a quick picture. It is now hanging above our bed, where it will remain!

Thanks again, Amy! We will treasure this forever!

You guys are cracking me up....

Love the dreamcatcher Amy...well done.

To update you all on the Diva...Jo received a new Christmas stocking in honor of joining our family and so her stocking was hung today as were her Christmas sleigh bells. She loves the bells and can reach over and hit them with her nose to make them ring. hehehehe I had a pair of reindeer antlers that Cheyenne was wearing that we were going to put on Jo for pictures but she took them off Cheyenne's head and was not impressed. She looked at them and then at us with an expression that just screamed "There is no way I am wearing those stupid antlers...forget it" hahahaha

So here is Miss Jo with her xmas decorations

What can I say......the truth hurts. Ha ha ha.

LADIES LADIES...GUESS WHAT. I sold 3 bantam cochin hens tonight. The ex racist broody girl that LH was going to get, my black/gold birchen cochin hen and one of my black cochin hens. The lady was super nice and these are going to a great pet home where they will be spoiled rotten.
