CHICKS DONT COUNT! LOL

They don't get counted until they are about 2 months old here. And those 26 chicks will be whittled down to girls only, so that should help make those 26 chicks become about....10 or so.

I'm NOT counting here..... NO WAY, not a chance...

Yesterday's hatch is complete... 16 of 18.
5 Icelandics (2 dark, 3 light)
3 blue Silkies
8 Delawares

Also have 5 Delawares (1 week old), and 7 that are a few weeks old.

So, presently brooding 28.....

Next hatch date ... Thurs. Dec 23, then Dec 29, and New Years! YAY!!!!
I wonder how many I will be brooding for the winter.....

Kathy....are you brooding in the garage or outdoors? I'm considering a hatch pretty soon, but due to allergies, they would HAVE to be outdoors. Heat lamps, completely covered, etc....but just not sure about it with the cold temps

Thanks

Technically, it is outside .... in a garage that is not attached to the house. It has electricity. I just set up a few small brooders, and one very large brooder (6ft x 7 ft I think). I put an electic heater in there, and it is nice and warm, too. Of course the heat lamps heat it up as well.

I'm so excited, I have to brag here! LoL...checking out my blue mottled cochin girl! she is absolutely GORGEOUS. Quality I never expected to see here.....

Whooooooo hoooooo.....

In other news, my white frizzle is DEFINITELY broody. she is still in the nest box. Tonight I am going to pull her out and stick her in a carport brooder. And then tomorrow I am going to give her all the eggs I have gotten out of my mottled cochin pen! Whoooo!

Janelle- YAY for you getting Napkin, what a pretty, pretty kitty! I love cats, and that face would have won me completely, too.

You winter hatch people!!!!! You are NUTS. On the other hand, I should be getting my bators next week.......

Thanks Cyn! She is a little heavily mottled for her age, but my rooster is lacking in mottling a bit...so they will be a fantastic cross.

So, I booted the white silkie hen out of her brooder back to the big yard...so I could combine her chicks with the rir/cochin's chicks, and move the older chicks that were beating everyone up into the silkie's old brooder.

It was SO CUTE. The white silkie and buff silkie came from the same place. I caught them "catching up" with each other after I let the white hen back out. Anyone who says chickens don't have feelings is crazy. They were so happy to see each other again.
