Kathy That hen and chicks made me laugh right out loud.

They are precious when they poke their little curious head out of all that fluff.
Inkheart- I put a layer of foam in the bottom of my nest and wood chips on top. No broken eggs and the hens seem to appreciate the comfort.

Cyn I hear thunder. Oh I hope its not bad weather for all of us again. Sorry about the little one. It is always sad to lose any.

Aww; I'm sorry about the chicks, Cyn. Kathy, that is adorable!

My Del babies are 11 weeks old today! Can you believe that, Cyn??

I have taken 500-something pictures of them, since I lost my camera. I have to use one that takes forever to load onto the computer! I just got in from taking some. They are so happy, out foraging. They start in the meadow, go into some woods, then the ivy, then some bushes, then the driveway, then the patio, then the pathway... I'm taking photos of them from the upstairs window.

Eleven weeks is far too early to pass judgement on what a cockerel will look like as an adult. Especially where it concerns Delaware's. So much changes after just their first true molt, that what you have now, is not what you will have in a few more months. Patience is the greatest asset with regards to raising and breeding Delaware's. Without it, birds with hidden potential will invariably end up in the soup pot before their time, and before their full potential is realized.

Cultivate patience in yourself in all things Nick. If you cannot achieve that, then maybe chicken breeding, incubating and hatching really aren't your thing after all.

I've never seen a Delaware male change from almost solid hackles to barred ones, though. Yes, they do change over time, but at this point, he'd be a cull from my own breeding program. You're not keeping him anyway, right? At least now, I know who is throwing those too-dark males for certain.

This weather is crazy ,windy all day . Bad weather for 300 am. sat.

Cynthia, sorry you lost one of your babies.
Nick ,Jay looks like one I have .Yours is a few weeks older. I bet he has great temperment too.

Cyn, I noticed that there is a tornado not to far below where you live. Are you and your chickens ok? thinking of you Love Gloria Jean

Oh, Amy, I could care less about his hackles, lol. I'm not keeping him. I was just wondering. He goes to his new home, HOPEFULLY, tomorrow or Sunday. I hope they make up their mind fast, because I will not have him crowing. I'm not breeding Delawares. They're just fun, and oh so much fun! I do have so much interest in the SOP, though. I just love to know where my chooks are at in comparison. I really want to put an order in for the 2001 SOP. Just for fun.
