I spray roundup under my fence line too as needed to keep it clear. My electric runs around 6000 volts. I check it daily. I get quite a zap from it so I imagine the critters do too. I have heard critters contact the wire and make a sound that you know they tested it. I have all but the bears to contend with but found that mostly they are diggers.

Also would like to add that if the ground rod doesn't have a good ground your fence will probably not work properly. My smaller 4 foot rod is all the way in the ground with about 2 inches above the ground so it is in about 4 feet down in and my 6 foot rod is too with about 2 feet out of the ground and 4 feet in the ground. The better the ground the better your fence will work.

Something got into my chick pen last night and killed one of my chicks they are around three months old. I put the game camera in there to see if it comes back. Have to go out to see if I can find where it got in. I hope it isn't another owl. They are hard to catch.

Very impressed it kept a bear out! Wow. I think the round up is a good idea, how often do you spray? I won't move mine it's only for 4 to 6 chickens. I have a white hen I really like that I'm afraid to let roam because of the hawks, do you find that the white ones stand out more for predators? Would love to see a pic of your scare hawk, I need to make one. The fox I seen right by the house scares me more then the hawks. So many things to worry bout.
I spray when growth is 1".but before 2". frequency depends on rain. On the color of the prey preference I agree it seems the white show up out there like a neon sign.
However both of my losses were black birds . Maybe its because of of primary prey . Here its most likely wild Turkey , crow and rabbit . So a black chickens look like a turkey.
As far as a Hawk spotting a chicken I don't think they will have much problem if the can see a mouse a over 100 yards.
ScareHawks are simple - piece of scrap 2x2 about 30" for body and 1x2 for arms, two step in 48" Eposts, some screws and Milk jug . Dress as desired but very light weight blows in wind for movement.
I also take a old CD and split and hang from arms with fish line. they move in slightest wind . Very easy to move for a change. I usually move every couple days.
Heres one streaking
:

The head is just a milk jug with cap screwed to top of 2x2 then screw jug on cap - if I see lightweight caps at the used store of 50 cents I tie wrap them on - change occasionally and move.
Don't want the critters to get used to the same thing.

They are diggers because you have the climbing controlled by the electric. predators are opportunists - the course of least resistance [ or in this care pain ]
We have 62 acrs fenced and I can walk he line and show you everyplace the coyotes are entering . Its always a dig under . I don't block them because they will make another.
That way I know where to wait LOL
Yes mine puts out 6000 volts also but you have a different and more controllable setup . All your hot wire are in insulators. With Enet a little will sometimes touch the ground . But my testing is always at 3000>3600 Volts and its plenty of a deterrent . Just ask my wife and son's chicken killer dog if its a deterrent The have first hand knowledge. LOL
Your setup is what I plan to do when I expand the ranging area. Looks good .

Nice set up, hope you catch what got in. Mine will be in a run and let out in the fenced area for exercise and grass. I hope not to loose any, with such a small flock I get attached to them all. Please let us know what the camera shows.

Great scarehawk! Thanks for posting. My husband is going to think I really lost it when I put one of those in the yard. He already thinks I go way over board trying to keep my chickens safe.

You would rather go with the single wires instead of the poultry squares? Wouldn't the poultry squares be better for diggers?

The fence would be 2x4 Galvanized wire 60" high and then two strand of hot on the outside - we would bury the 2x4 fence in trench and add crush chunk concrete/bricks/rocks etc. The buried wire /chucks deter the diggers and the two hots deter the climbers. I haven't had a digger go under the Enet yet.I think they get hit once and avoid the net from a distance I had something chew one strand one time. Bet it enjoyed that LOL

That sounds great, and a lot of work. But our chickens are well worth it. :)
Good to hear nothing's got under the Enet.
