Jimminy Christmas Girls! Sounds like we're all having a crappy day!

Sorry to hear it.

I'm heading to bed early tonight, so I'm keeping this one short. Didn't get diddly squat done on the living arrangements for anybody today. Had a doctors appointment this afternoon and due to travel distances and such, it was a total wash on getting anything accomplished.

At the doctors, everything is still pretty much the status quo. Though Doc did lower the MS Contin to a total of 75 mg a day and the Zoloft up to 100 mg. I guess that's progress?

For those of you who don't know, I had a bit of an altercation two years ago (October 2, 2008) with an extension ladder, a big blue tarp and a sudden drop of nearly 10 feet. In other words, the ladder from the loft to the main floor came sliding out from under me the moment I had both feet on the ladder as I descended from the loft. That caused a spectacular and sudden impact with the floor. End result, and long story short, I broke vertebra's #T-11 and #T-12. Also, messed up my ankle pretty bad as well, but fortunately didn't break anything there. As a result of nobody looking past my hips for possible damage, the breaks in the vertebrae weren't discovered as the source of pain until it was too late to do anything about it.

So, now, two years almost to the day, we [Doc and I] are still trying to wean me off of the MS Contin. It's a long story, and like I said, I just don't have the energy to tell all the details tonight. In a nutshell, the good news is that he agrees with me that it's time to drop the dosage another 15 mg. The bad news: I probably still won't be off of this dang stuff for at least another 6+ months at the earliest!

I hate pills!

But, real good news: After getting back home from the doctors, DH and I did get out to the Home Depot and got a bunch of wonderful materials to work on the covered runs for both the flock and for my sweet, sweet boys!!

SO! I'm going to bed early in the hopes that I can get an earlier start on things tomorrow.

I hope that everyone has a glorious day tomorrow. May you all sleep peacefully and have pleasant dreams. May your hens all lay big beautiful eggs, and may all of your boys let you sleep in at least an extra hour before heralding the morning sunrise!

Hey, Cyn, I think I wanna make a water heater like that! I have those big plastic waterers like in your picture too.

LadyHawk, I think you are right .... that looks like a roo to me. None of my Silkie girls have a comb like that anyway. You should see this pretty black Silkie mama with her 7 babies. They are just adorable. Ummm, how many of these did you say to send out to you? Not too many now, because I know Cyn wants most of them.

Amy, that is just plain ol' bad luck with the ladder, for sure. I am so sorry to hear you have had to go through all this. It's a real shame.

Hope the weather is good for you, Amy, so you can work on your projects.

Nella, hope you have a better day tomorrow, too!

Yikes Amy, that sounds painful.

My day only got worse yesterday..........after finally getting everything cleaned up, mopped, etc, I realized it had started raining........so had to let two very wet dogs back into my freshy cleaned room. So much for that cleanjob. Demolished in 5 seconds.

Finally let everyone back out to normal so they could be fed.......within 5 minutes, old geezer dog peed in the hallway and laundry room. SERIOUSLY!?!?!?!

He is old and can't hold it well but STILL.....3 accidents in like 3 hours. RAGE.

The baby was indeed dead this morning. The half blind hen is not a first time mom........but last time she was broody along with 2 other hens and I think they did the actual work for the first week and then she took over when the kids were bigger. Since she is blind on one side, she doesn't seem to notice when eggs slide out over there or when there is a chick under her FOOT. She tries hard and I feel sorry for her....she would be good for day old chicks who are already up and at em. She is so happy when she has babies......Grrrrr.....

Went to let the chickens out today and heard a crow freaking out next door........yep, the hawk was gliding over their yard. Yay.

I have been having dental problems and jaw problems..........I take 3 advil every 4 hours to keep from dying in pain....while eating last night my jaw kept popping on one side. Very weird. Now it is SO SORE. However! A lot of the other mouth pain is not there......I almost think my jaw has been "out" since I had the last filling done over a month ago. I still need a root canal or two, but since my insurance sucks and they will cost me over a grand EACH, they are going to have to wait.

Hope today is a better day! Please let today be a better day...........

Just be sure if you make the bucket defroster, that you use a short bucket, like a 3 gallon, not a 5 gallon that is too tall for them to reach; that is, unless you give them a step up to it. It worked very, very well last winter.

Janelle, so sorry for all the pain, predator and tooth. You, too, Amy--OUCH!

Wow, sorry you had such a Monday yesterday, Janelle! (and such a bad year, Serrin

LadyHawk, the pullet would be only slightly older than yours, by a week or two. She's from my new quad, but I decided to put a couple of my d'Uccle splits in with the MF cockeral. I'm going to have to do some major rearranging <sigh>.
If you'd like to have a couple of black mottled/ split to lav pullets in with either your porcelains or MF just let me know! They're a tad younger than yours but feathering out nicely!

Some of my project birds:

Your newest millie (the one behind the scruffy darker pullet. she's staying):

What a bummer! She truly is very pretty. Guess I have to sell some birds <gulp>
My DH wishes he had that kind of authority

Cynthia, I do like the bucket idea because it moves the water farther from the shavings. Last winter I had the water on chunks of 4x4 to elevate them. So I will check into the cinderblock idea. DH is almost done running permanent power to the coop. the line is all buried, we just need an actual electrician to hook it to the box. DH could do it, but prefers to let someone with an actual license touch the power supply.
