So much for going to bed early last night.

Seems like the harder I try, the more insomnia grabs hold of me. So, late to bed means late to rise and the boys are all screaming their heads off! I'll catch up with y'all later today. But I did want to pop in long enough to say Thank You ladies!

Your supportive natures mean more to me than you may ever know!

Cyn, I love the idea of the water heater too! And I even have a couple of those little 2.5 gallon buckets that would be just perfect for turning into a heater. I wonder if those can work outdoors as well as indoors? The amount of floor space that I'll have for the boys once the modifications are done may not allow for a large set up.

Hopefully having nearly triple the number of birds in the coop as I've had in previous years will make a big difference in the ambient temperature in there this winter.

OK, time to go take care of everyone! I'll be back in later today. I hope y'all have a better day today than yesterday was folks!

Had a scare just now. My old ladies, including broodies with their respective sons and Shadow, were out free ranging. There was an explosive uproar suddenly, with Suede leading the chorus and we both ran out. Suede was in the coop with his girls, all birds in the main flock were under their coop and the old ladies had crammed themselves into part of Suede's coop that is in front of Zane's cage. We got everyone inside, but couldn't find Shadow. We looked and looked and called for her, then at last, I heard her answer me in her teeny voice, and followed it. She was underneath Suede's coop and crammed as far to the front as she could, where it's barely above the ground. Thought we'd lost her for a few minutes.

Thank goodness she chatters when you call her name or we'd still be looking. Coaxed her out with the scratch can, but she wouldn't eat anything. Guess a hawk did a huge swoop through there; whether or not he was targeting a particular bird or not, can't say.

No biggie, I will just toss mr Buff columbian into the sale cage for this weekend. Must downsize...MUST.

My boyfriend and I have discussed downsizing my animals.........I say "maybe I should get rid of the ducks". He says "Why? I like the ducks".......and I say "I'm going to sell my mille fleur cochin flock" and he says "Oh no, not the feather footed chickens!"......

Hmmmm......

My neighbor left me a note on Friday about a local 4H chicken show and sale the next day. I mentioned it to my man and he said "OOH, are you going to go?" and I said "no, I'm too tired" and he said "ah, darn, sorry babe, wish you could go".

His training is going well

Scott, they really look nice. Sorry I made the hatchery Del joke on the other thread, I couldn't resist! I will keep my eyes pealed at Nationals!

Scott, those are some beautiful birds you've got going there. Have you considered, or have you maybe already, put any of them into the show ring? [figuratively speaking

] I bet your roo's would do very well in a few more months. Is it the CR's take a long time to mature and get their full coloration and pattern? Much like a Del takes a long time? How old is this bunch in the pictures? I sure like that little girl in the bottom left of picture #4. What a chunky little cutie!

Well....I appreciate the complements, BUT, they need some work. Type is not great...roos are"ok", but girls have a long way to go. i need some SIZE!! Planning to outcross to a SQ White Rock female this Fall. Tails are "pinched"....hoping the BRs I have will help with that

Plus, with a 15 yr old and an 11 yr old...time to "show" just aint there.....I spend soooooo much time with my boys (huntin', fishin' , coaching baseball, etc, etc) that I could not do showing the time it needed.

BUT, my intentions ARE to have Show Quality birds.....just not in the arena. For my (and my friends) enjoyments only

What a bummer! She truly is very pretty. Guess I have to sell some birds <gulp>
My DH wishes he had that kind of authority

Not at all, I did promise no more birds until we got everything situated, pens built and etc....and then Ebony, Baize, Lancelot, Hera, 5 Silkies, Emmett & Esma, Spike, Blossom and Rose and the three I hatched Hedwig, D'Artagnan, & Maya. And a Horse coming.

I think he had the right to tell me "no"
