Ahem, there is one rooster who is working my last nerve. He is a certain buff columbian looking cochin who might go live in Kentucky in a couple months if he can survive my WRATH in the meantime. Mr mottled my evil bantam cochin rooster got shredded again yesterday.......he can still see out of one eye so I have left him with the flock for now. But this morning caught Mr Buff Columbian being mean to him again. Poor Mr Mottled. Mr Buff columbian may have to move into the rooster pen.......that is a very very scary place to be. Last rooster I added to that pen was nearly scalped. I am short one rooster pen since all my brooders are full. What to do, what to do. Mr mottled does okay with the other boys in the big yard.........and mr buff columbian does okay with the other boys in the big yard. Just not with each other.

I really don't know what to do about these two eggs. I do think only one is probably viable, but how long would you wait? Day 23 is in progress by now. If Emily had just sat tight the first day and kept them under her well, I wouldn't have this dilemma! The only chicken ever hatched this late here on its own was Scott's L'il Bit. I let that egg continue because I could see her moving in there, and after tapping a small air hole in the top of the air cell so she wouldn't run out of air, we put it back and waited and it wasn't that long before she pipped and hatched by herself.

On the latest with my sister....she saw the neurologist today who asked why she was there...then she got the reports from the other doctor and about collapsed...so my sister is going through a full body CAT scan and an MRA and more labwork on Monday...

the abridged version...if the neurosurgeon cannot do a biopsy safely through her carotid artery or minor intrusion on the skull...she is being sent to the Mayo Clinic in Houston...if Shands can handle it in Florida they will try there. They said this is extremely rare, having never seen anything like it and what they "see" vs what the labs are saying are completely different. The 3cm mass completely encases the internal carotid artery *sigh* They are leaning towards lymphomia at present. Meanwhile the radiology report and lab findings have been scanned and emailed to me...so tonight I begin picking them apart, as one of my speciality fields in my career was medical malpractice and wrongful death, the neurologist thought I might see something in them that they did not...or that I might have some ideas. So, I am taking that as this is very rare indeed, asking non-medical professional input.

She has been ordered to not be left alone, no working, only light stuff around the house and they have given her something light to help her sleep. As for me, I am over my "insanity" from yesterday, the tears are gone, the resolve is here and the determination is set. I REFUSE to lose my little sister...I WILL NOT HAVE IT!

I may have to do that. When you try to get a chick out before it's ready, that can be disastrous. On the other side of the coin, I always hate the feeling that I didn't help in time, but usually, I don't help at all. This is just a case of really needing this one for the other one's company. Tom put a mirror in with the single chick and she is having a time looking at herself. Poor little thing is so sweet--not chirping much at all, just napping and looking around. I want her to have a buddy, dang it!

Update: It's day 20 and I started out with 26 eggs. I now have 7 chicks that have hatched!

5 JGs, 1 BLRW, and 1 EE . The JG's and BLRW came from a BYC member and the EE is out of my pair. All seem to be doing well! I'm trying to wait a little longer, but they are wild chicks so i'm going to have to move them to the brooder so the other eggs have a chance.

I have the new incubator fired up because when I got home there was the 12 Barred Rock eggs on the front porch,

I will post pics soon as they dry off good and fluff up!

Check about her maybe going to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston! They are reported to be one of the best! I've met alot of patients that go there and they swear by it. My mom has to go to the Texas Heart institute In Houston when she has to have surgeries on her aneurysms. Mom has a disease called Marfan Syndrome (google it) in her it has affected her aorta and has had three surgeries to remove and repair aneurysms. She jokes that shes owned by dacron. They have replaced almost all of her aorta except for a piece in the arch between two replacement where another aneurysm sits. Anyway my point is there are some awesome doctors in Houston and you should research it. They even have a program called Angel FLights that can pick her up take her to the doctor appt and then bring her back all at no charge. Look into it. Hope this has helped

Ladyhawk, you and I must have been posting at the same time-just now saw your post. I'm glad you have passed the initial shock phase and have your mind set about doing what your sister needs. Sounds like an unusual situation, to say the least. Of course, I will pray for your sister's recovery and grace and strength to handle what is ahead for her. She has the best sister anyone could have on her side so I'm sure she'll get through this.
