I have just hatched my very first Icelandic grandbaby here! From my Kola (Icelandic word meaning black) pullet! Kola was the first black Icelandic chick of all of Mary's chicks, by the way, and I hatched her, too.

Thanks for posting those pics of my sweet gold Nugget, Kathy. I love that girl! She got a really great dust bath today and was quite pleased about it. Today is Day 13 for her. Will be trying to move her to the broody pen today--when she was going back after her little grooming session, she went right in there (it's under Zane and on the opposite side of that coop from where she lives now), probably out of habit. Her nest is ready so if she'll settle on it in that pen, I'll be relieved. She can raise the babies in there for a couple weeks then move to the Firetower.

ETA: congrats on the Icelandic babies!

More good news .... today I got 2 eggs from the Barred Rocks! Yippeeee! they are laying!

The 5 day old Delawares are in a brooder across the room from the Icelandic. They hear her chirping, and they are screaming their lungs out in reply to her! LOUD!!! I warmed up a washcloth in the microwave, and the baby is now happy in end of the roll.

I prefer my chicken rolls with a little less feathering......

Cute little monkey! Aren't you glad you kept your icelandics now? Good job downsizing Kathy! Or er...uh......not.....

aaawwwww Kathy you posted a pic of Nugget and what was to be my baby Rose..who later became Roosevelt and went to live elsewhere....that was the prettiet baby...

Cute baby but I prefer my chicken wraps with less "life" that yours.

Amy...just look now for airfare...it is cheap as all get out when you buy in advance. *hint hint*

Okay May it shall be....Tada

Pics from today around this zoo...the girls would not leave the coop the big cowards. So I cooked up some scrambles eggs, mackeral, flax seed oil and sweet potato....it took them (yes I put a stop watch on em) 1 min 28 seconds to kill the entire plate and DeDe aka Sumo chicken went charging over to d'Artagnan's crate and Lancelot's playpen trying to sticj her head in to steal theirs too.....PIGS with feathers all of them and non ladylike either.

Tomorrow is my birthday and my stepmom is taking my half-sister (5 years old) and me to the world of coke. Then I'm having lunch with my best friend and having a party Monday night.

Great job on the A's, Nick!

Nugget is firmly ensconced in the broody pen in Suede's coop underneath Zane. We removed her from the old ladies' coop and put the eggs in the warmed up nest, that we made cozy by heating a rice bag in the microwave and letting it sit on the nest before we moved the eggs in there. She settled down with no trouble. It helps that she has raised two broods in there already, the last one this past spring. Tomorrow is Day 14. Next Friday, I go get a couple mini-chicks for her to raise for me, just in case all four eggs don't hatch.

Just watched the video--there's my wonderful friend with her new gal-pal!
