Forgot to say that I'll be starting the big hatch about March 18 or so. I'm trying to coordinate shipments for March 14 from four sources and I would have done it a tad sooner, but there is a situation with one breeder- he lost a rooster to a predator and is getting a new one and he wants to do blood tests on him and get results before he puts that big boy in with the hens. That's the type caution I like to see in a breeder!

oh, Kathy, they're gorgeous!!! I'm salivating to think some of the babies will be hatching here soon!

Forgot to say that I had to pull Isaac out of the coop and put him in the broody pen and spend 30 minutes cleaning him up. Ellie and Georgie again tried to pull his comb off his head and he was covered in blood.

Delawares are not good confined to a coop for weeks on end, trust me. I'm considering selling those two hens to a rooster-less flock or to someone with a roo with a rose or pea comb. Isaac didn't do anything wrong and he's a fabulous rooster so why does he have to endure those witchy women?? Poor Ike.

I, too, have one Delaware hen that likes to do that ..... I should say, I had one, as she was sold last week. I went outside to find Jacob a bloody mess. Funny, they don't do that to Oliver .... or he doesn't let them, one or the other. Crazy girls, for sure. Of course, when we are out there they are all over us, too. They just like attention!

I'm determined to sell those two hens to someone else who doesn't have a single combed rooster. I have one with Nugget that I believe is a pullet and I may keep her-at least she doesn't have that bad habit yet. She is Ellie's baby, who is my best Del hen.

Great "action" shots! I cant even get mine to step FOOT in te snow - princesses - they have been living in the barn - ;luckily it is big enough and they have found fun new spots - the winding staircase is a favorite uo to the storage spot - i get the evil eye from above - looking like Gargoyles

I candled the eggs. Sadly, not one of the BBS Orps seems to be developing. I'll wait a couple days and re-candle, but all 7 Delaware eggs are humming along just fine. I think my sweet big blue boy is losing fertility.

Anyone want some Delaware chicks? I don't want to keep any of these. Of course, they aren't hatched yet, so barring complications, we should have at least five to seven Del babies available.

Is it a pond or a lake? I dunno.... Neighbor calls it a lake. I always thought it was a pond. It is probably like 3 acres or so in size. I took some pictures of it today. There is a peninsula, as well as an island in it.

From the north, looking south (my house is far out of the picture to the left)

Standing on the peninsula looking to the left. I don't know if you can see that is an island.
