thanks for the help.just thought i would ask.i am putting together my seed order for the spring.i want to try several herbs this year and thought if i could plant some stuff for the chickens it would be a bonus.
Cetawin,
thanks for the info.Johnny's is one of the catalogs i was looking at.i must have skipped over the mix your talking about.
my chickens are going to eat good this year.i have a field (3 acres) i am going to plant with summer squash when the squash comes off i plan to plant the whole field in greens - turnip, collard, kale,& spinach....i think they will be pretty happy with that.
Well, I see Delilah hasn't lost weight since going to live with Cheyenne, LOL. She looks healthy as a horse, that girl.
This morning, we have four Delawares in the brooder, two eggs pipped and the lone one that has not pipped yet.
I just do not believe that 90% of all flocks are MG positive. It may be high, but not that high, IMO. Ones I've sold that have been subsequently tested for MG were clean, at least so far, they have been. That means my flock was clean and the flock that was tested was also clean.
There ain't nothing wrong with Delilah she even used that post pretty good as a blockade against the loves. LOL. Her comb majesty her look exotic don't ya think? DeDe may have started a fashion trend.
Ok, so Buckwheat just hatched another chick yesterday and since I turned the heat light on it seems fine even though it got pushed out of the nest or something like that. I pulled the "box" out and just put the "hay nest" back in the bin and she seems fine with that. So hopefully I won't lose this chick like the last two. She still has one egg left but I may pull it as I DON'T NEED ANYMORE CHICKS.
Cyn, they all look nice to me, but then I make no claims not to be partial to Delawares. Though I suspect they lost favor in the north when I look at Nick and Uncle George and see their combs look frostbit. It's been one of the coldest winters here in years, breaking records. As many may know we hold the record for snow fall in the country I think. 113" and counting. Snow is good but cold is bad.
I've been considering hanging one of those "oil filled" heaters from the rafters with wire. Has anyone considered it? Just to take the edge off. Last year I kept them in on the coldest days. I may start doing that again, though it's to late for Nick and Uncle George. The younger roos seem fine.
