Oh, I didn't know that beau was going to LH's. I read that you and LH were trying to make crosses but always failed. Those Rhodels are pretty, though.

I prefer the clean legged birds over feather legged, generally, so I'm going to just keep the D'Anvers.

Nick, they are doing great... I absolutely love them. Two in particular are always right there ready to climb up my arm when I reach into the brooder.
I had to put down my BSL today. She was just a year old.

Yes. She was egg bound a few weeks ago and I brought her in the house for a "spa" treatment. Then gave her another one the next day. The third day she laid an egg and there was also a leathery shell in the crate with it. I thought it was maybe wrapped around the hard shelled egg. I put her back out after that and she was fine for a few days and then had troubles again. She dropped an egg on the dropping board and there was a lot of liquid in that same spot. Today when we let them out to free range she did not seem quite right and then I noticed that she was oozing from the vent. We felt it was probably best to go ahead and cull her. I hated to do it. I will never ever get another sex link.

OMG, I am so sorry! I am glad that my Lily passed away by a hawk, instead of that. I used to just love Sexlinks, and created a thread for them... I'm really not that into them anymore.

I am glad your chicks are doing well, though!

I have a made a decision. One more big hatch after the 288 that are in now, and I am unplugging the incubators. I will let ALL the chickens free range for the summer. I am not gonna keep them all penned up just so I can hatch eggs for others. I want to get some enjoyment from my own chickens myself. I am declining to accept any more orders.
