Kathy, that is a GREAT idea!! You deserve some fun! You will have to post a lot of pictures of these entertaining, ranging chickens! I think that it's great you made that decision, though hatching seems fun!

Hatching is fun, Nick, though I will admit it is not as "fun," as it used to be. Just like everything else, it gets to be "old hat." It is all the work AFTER the hatch that is very hard work! Honestly, I have such a large population of chicks & chickens and pens and coops and brooders..........

It takes me 4 hours to do daily chores here. I am slow, and when the boys help me they are done much quicker than I am. I am more fussy though. I scrub out the drinking fountains every day and I mix additives into feed, etc. THEN, there is routine dusting and worming to do, too! Those are all day jobs every 6 or 8 weeks here.

I am just not gonna work so hard this summer. I want to spend some time enjoying the chickens out ranging and such. My population explosion is soon gonna be leveled!

I plan to have a big sale, and sell off many birds...... possibly very soon.

Well Kathy... About your big sale... I'm not sure if you ship...

No joke, though! Maybe you could bring some to LH's for the meet-up. She would love that, I bet!

I am very happy for you, to let you know. That must be a lot. Maybe you can have a sandbox in each run to save you on some dusting? I made a big pit filled with some DE, sand and dirt and they bathe in it daily.

Just a suggestion!

I really enjoy doing the chores, as my girls follow me and I can be with them, but there is a limit and I'm glad that you will get to be free and happy.

It has become stressful when I have so many orders and requests that I simply can not keep up. I hate to say, "no," to anyone, but I just have to. I never planned to make any money off my chickens; just wanted some nice chickens "for eggs," ya know.......

I want to continue with my project, and will hatch from them when the time comes. The others ....... I love them. I don't need any more, and I won't be incubating for others. I am happy with what I have, and want to keep them and enjoy them. Today I opened up all the pens, except the Barred Rocks, New Hampshires, and Orps (because I have orders to fill). Everyone went their own way, breeds pretty much stick together. They were all so happy to be out and about. I have enough land that they hardly never even meet up with the other mini-flocks. I enjoyed an hour of just sitting and watching them.

I don't hatch anything near as much as you do, BUT I can so relate!

I have done 5 hatches since Nov 2010 and have a 6 th in the incubator now. I've been building pens and brooders non-stop. In between that. . I have been locating more stock - - -either shipped hatching eggs or shipped chicks. I have eggs from still coming from 3 - 4 breeders before I am done for this year.. ..

On top of that, I am not selling these chicks. I am raising these for my own stock. I feel terrible that I am not getting a chance to bond with the babies because I am too busy doing the house keeping chores. Babies are a LOT of work. I JUST named my delawares from my Nov 2010 hatch. I have been too busy to spend enough time to give them names. I CAN NOT wait until I am DONE with the hatching so that I can enjoy my babies. . ..

I am not gonna tell you. You SHOULD know!

OHHHHH........ The Delawares! How could I forget? I'm so sorry! Really, I'm interested in that project. I can't wait to see how it turns out, but I'm so confused on how it doesn't make Black Sexlinks.

Go back and review your sexlink thread, Nick.
