Cyn, I hope your Orps hatch!

Coon # 11 has been disposed of. I should have saved them all for the fur and made a furry blanket.

How are you all handling the heat? I would sure enjoy a break from these triple digits, any break at all please.

Looking at one of my processing pens I think we could process some of them, but it is just too darn hot and I wanna do it outside. Mike doesn't want to do it. Rather, he wants to have someone else butcher them. Another pen will be at least another month or 6 weeks before they are ready. Should be cooled down by then, I hope. Doing a few at a time shouldn't be so hard, right?

Maybe I should sell a couple pairs or trios of some of these. Some are really looking nice. Decisions, decisions..... Thing is, it is just too hot to ship anything, and around here there isn't a real interest in pure bred poultry. I have some Project chicks (from cock #2) growing out that look nice. I really only wanna keep 4 or 5 of them.

Will someone please make up my mind?

I need to move some out so I can think about hatching some F2s from the Project pen soon. (I'm going through incubation withdrawal.) I got 6 eggs from the 10 girls yesterday. OR, maybe I just need another pen..... No, no, no.......

Off to Craigslist..........

Thanks, Kathy. Day 16 on the three in the bator and Day 12 with the two under Smoky. I'm on pins and needles to see if Dusty's eggs make it to hatch. Hoping for blues and splashes rather than blacks after all the heat issues this summer, though Delilah is black and was one of the survivors of that tragic afternoon at LH's. She is one tough woman!

I sure wish I could help with your decisions, but I'd have a hard time deciding, too.

I want them to hatch soo bad too. LH deserves to get a break for a change.
Kathy, I would not be a bit of good to you on your decision. I think I still have two or three roos. I can keep only one. Decisions , decisions. Why do the orps have to be soo sweet ,I do not know. They are always huge from the Suede line. I got a splash chick from Beth this Spring, hopeing it would be a girl. No such luck just a big friendly boy. He is 12 weeks old. The Lavenders are still up in the air. One has just a bit more comb than the other, but who knows.
This heat is still bearing down ,even here. Tomorrow is Aug. Its time for a change. Some of the trees in the woods know it. I saw some with redish leaves today. Cooler weather can not be too far away, I hope.
I have been so busy in the garden that I have not written much lately. I can loads and freeze loads too when able. So far, so good this season. Gloria Jean

I wish I had canned and frozen fresh vegetables and fruit here. Nothing tastes better in the middle of the winter!

Gloria Jean, I sure wish I could sex those Orps earlier! Darn things are really hard for me to sex, especially the lavenders! I have found that with the English Imported Orps the girls feather in much quicker than the boys and can tell that way. I think Cyn had an Orp that she thought was a boy for quite a while and ended up being a girl, too.

I just gave away the Lav Orp that I had because I was sure it was a boy. I really wanted to keep it but since I don't need any more boys I sent him on to a good home where the kids named him "Free Willy". It will be just my luck that it ends up being a girl. Oh well, that's how the cookie crumbles.

I have put up 70qts of greenbeans this yr off one row of beans. I will pick again Mon. My hands remind me I am getting older. Oh ! they get stiff. I am trying to put up enough for my Mom, daughters and other home on the coast of NC. Thats 4 places. I have sweet pickles cubs and sliced. I have loads of fruit I froze to make jam from too. I just love to do this when I am able. I grew most of the fruits. Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, I bought the peaches. Oh i grew the cherries too. My hb says I am doing too much. I probably am. I took a nap a while ago and woke up with my ear bleeding. ???????? Whats with that?

Shes beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! Much prettier than an old woman like me. I gave one to Beth a couple of years ago just like her. Her name is Cloud. Now I have Clouds son. I am not sure what to do with him. I have a pretty young NH from Kathy also that ? lavender roo and a Questionable English Black roo too. I gave away 13 roos already this year. This place has been roo haven this yr. Out of 36 chicks at least 16 have been roos.

But considering that I only wanted one or two of each kind I guess I am still ahead of the game. I do have def. one pretty little sweet Del. Her name is Flower. When my Granddaughter came up she named all the hens for me, shes 7 yrs old. Gloria Jean

Gloria Jean, I sure hope that bleeding is nothing serious.

Do you have a tendency to get ear infections? Bleeding from the ear is usually due to a ruptured or perforated eardrum caused by a middle ear infection. But you already know that.

Your Gloria Jean chicken is a beautiful girl, Cynthia! Just like her namesake! Perfect!
